After buying a WRX that somone had de-badged...and realising that WRX's look like they have down syndrome with no badges on the back of them, I went about my way to re-badge it... now.. the WRX and IMPREZA badges are EASY AS. BUT, the S-U-B-A-R-U bit was a bit of a hassle.

I had posted in the wanted section looking for the SUBARU bit, and somone suggested "buy them direct from subaru cos they are already lined up and they're a bitch to get in line on your own"

So I took that as a challenge... as I dont think "lining them up" is worth the $244 asking price for the stickers direct from SUBARU...

I found at AUTOBARN, they sell letters that are the EXACT height of the subaru factory ones, for only $3.99 per letter, so I bought SUBARU, checking it twice to make sure I hadnt spelt 'fuckarse' or anything like that, $24 later...

I measured up visually how wide the whole SUBARU word needed to be on the back of my car,

[attachmentid=501153]

I then unrolled a strip of electrical tape (or your favorite tape of choice) and lined up the letters BACKWARDS (chrome side to the sticky bit) so that it was all even... I spaced them 3 finger spaces apart, but in hindsight, I think it might be too wide. I really should have went for 2 finger spaces.

[attachmentid=501154]

Then I peeled the backing off the stickers and stuck the bastards on there keeping the tape stuck to the back of them to keep them inline (this is the bit that is apparently 'a bitch'

[attachmentid=501155]

so... if anyone wants to stick the SUBARU stickers back on your car... you can either go to SUBARU and pay $244 for original gear, or pay $24 from autobarn and do it in 15mins at home. otherwise, I DO offer a fitting service for $220... laugh.gif thumbsup.gif

easier way to get them lined up.

masking tap across the boot of your car, level with a spirit level so you know its right.

use a sharp lead pencil and mark at the top of the tap where you want each letter (allows you to measure the distance between the letters, not "finger guess")

peel off the backing from each letter as you do them (one at a time) and place it so its sitting on the top edge of the masking tap central to the mark you made on the tap.

proceed with all letters, peel off masking tape.

Done and perfectly level, no need to worry about measuring them onto electrical tape and putting them all on in one hit.

the only problem with doing it that way is having to know both exatly where the centre is, and having to measure out from the centre both the size of each letter and the space in between.

the reason I did it this was is that all you need to do is find the centre of the bootlid, then you can see visually where the centre of the SUBARU is just by dummy taping it to the boot. your way ensures perfection... my way is easier and gets similar results for the lazy idiot in all of us. smile.gif laugh.gif

not that hard to measure where the middle is, mark it, then measure 35mm between each leter.

try it with Reversing sensors on 6 cars in a week. u get pretty quick with marking it out. (they have to be a certain height from the ground aswell)
