Hi

Currently looking for a 3g card or similar to be used for work purposes on a laptop from outside of the office.

Looking for suggestions on what to get.

data usage would be approximately 500 meg. Would guess it would be max at about 1gig.

We have the one with optus. 45 bucks for 5 gig. It's good when you're in good mobile range ..

at our house it drops out a lot but our mobile phones themsevles arent the best out there.

Ski takes it and the laptop with him to canberra and it works fine down there in the middle of the city..

so as long as you get good mobile reception it works well.

i dont know what other plans they have tho.

Virgin have got some pretty good deals going at the moment.

I'm with three and just got upgraded from 1Gb to 2Gb per month for $29.

No complaint.

Three roams to other networks when Threes 3G is unavailable, and charges you roaming fees.

Vodafone doesnt, and drops back to GPRS when 3G is unavailable (although you can turn roaming on if youre feeling rich). Currently comes with a free modem too. Folks are travelling aound Australia soon and theyll be going with Vodafone.

Telstras NextG is a complete rip off, and should never even be considered, by anyone.

Virgin seems to have a shaping plan, but I cracked the shits at their stupid website and gave up trying to find the fine print. Fuck I hate flash animated websites that spend more time animating the text and images all over the screen than giving you the fucking content.

Im with 3 also, Altho i never turn roaming on since then id have to pay per mb.

Yeah, Optus are the same with dropping back to GPRS when 3G isn't available.

Just wanted to bump this as I'm in need of a SIM only service for use with my Dell Mini 9 biggrin.gif

5Gb usage should suffice each month as it would be rarely used (maybe only when capped).

However, running in the 850mhz spectrum (unlike the rest running at 2100mhz), Next G gives the best coverage and performance. It is a real pity they charge through the nose for their service, but it is actually really good.

Oh, no question they provide the best coverage. But at the prices they charge, I fully expect a Telstra van to follow me around and wire me into the nearest ethernet LAN whenever I require internet instead of just a wireless dongle and some hopes and prayers. Their prices really do beggar belief. Course, that was when I last posted. They may be at least somewhat more value for money now?

Someone do some research for me as I plan on getting wireless internet for a road trip soon tongue.gif

yeah, cant agree more. Telstra may be the most expensive, but certainly the best for coverage when you need it. especially for business. cant be out in the sticks with vodafone, etc.

Care to elaborate? I've not heard of any issues with the Mini 9.

besides being PAINFULLY SLOW and annoying to work with (unless you have girly fingers).

there are better netbooks out there.
Akshunhiro
Oh, is that all...

I bought it because it was cheap and it has a built in HSDPA card and it's the most compatible netbook with OS X.
