1) Try to use a little more zoom and try implementing more of a blurring background so you get a sense of motion from the picture, but not bad over all.
2) Love it, really good composure. I think this has something to do with the sizing your trying to size it to. Try using Photoshop to resize your images instead of doing it yourself in another program. Also try different sizes so it does squash/flatten your pictures.
3) Great picture, good angle, and as i said from the first picture, try to use the AV function for these types of events. It will give the viewer of the picture a better sense of motion

4) I'm not really an expert of taking pictures of boats, but it doesn't look to bad... Maybe a little more zoom would make a better picture.
5) Love the moon, looks great! Well done.
6) Again, I'm not an expert in this area for surfing... But more zoom and maybe clarity of the face would make a better picture.
7) Same as above, although thats almost perfect zoom.
8) Love the picture of Q1, try and put the contrast down so you can see the tops of the building a little better, also as a suggestion, maybe try it at night time
9) Plane picture rocks

love it.
10) Nice and smokey

the way its ment to look.
Well done with all the pictures mate

one little thing that I think could help make them look a little better, and as I said before, try and use photoshop to resize. Also, try making a better stamp, it looks kind of tacky and out of place.
All the best,
Dan

Surfing photography, in light like you have shot, you pretty much can use these settings.
ISO: 100
AV: f/8.0
Shutter: 1/1000th
White Balance: Sun
If you do wana shoot in AV mode thou, I suggest f/8 @ +0.33 EV
You get results like this!
Thanks for the tips, the photos are strait off the camera with no editing as i dont have photoshop, that is next on the list.

Yeah, all you really need to do in PS with surfing shots is add contrast and saturation

It took 2 trys to get that shot, it helps when my camera shoots 6 frames a second and just had a fast shutter speed with the camera on a tripod

Not the best pics that i have taken but they looked cool so i thought that i would share them, was playing with the bigma at nite, that probly wasnt the best idea from the start and had the iso cranked right up, wasnt sure what else to do so they are very grainy. oh well better to have taken them then missed them.

very nice shot your getting mate!
how'd you get a media pass? if you dont mind me asking
Cheers, media pass was a matter of speaking to powercruise and going through the motions
Would have liked to take the pic from the other angle but the background is not that good, has buildings and a road behind it.

Don't know if you've managed to secure a copy of Photoshop yet but if you haven't tried it... Gimp might do everything you need and it's free to download.
Being free, if you don't like it, you can always get rid of it and buy PS later. That said, it's a good starting point and has most of the tools PS has.
Photos look great - good luck with it all.

Nice purchase. I think the key is to go slow and use a wide aperture to keep things sharp and the background blurry but i foresee issues with your set up being not very stable, if you look at matty's set up for eg he's got two caps and a giant pole to keep it planted like a tree, I can see shakes in your shots which may just be speed but probably vibrations too.
I know what you mean about the visor, I tried taking a shot of my helmet when I first got my strobe kit and it was the same quandary, getting the right angle - I think the trick is distance, keep low and well distanced.
WB looks a little baked for me in the visor shot though, what did you light it with? tungsten? (lamps etc) plus you can see the tent in that shot - which i guess isn't important since you're just messing around but I thought I'd be a dick and point it out anyway. What are you planning to shoot with the tent? My sister has started out making her own jewelry (and being incredibly arty it makes for wicked designs etc) and I've been thinking of a small/medium sized tent to take some pics of her gear when she decides to sell it.
What sized tent do you have? Brand etc.. recommend it?
