Hey guys my couz recently got his P Plates under the new driving laws which means no turbo, no supercharged and nothing over 200kw of power for people who arent sure on the gay new laws.

Anyways he is currently driving his mums car and is looking for a reasonably cheap first car and wouldnt mind to do a bit of drifting so he will want a rear wheel drive.

He doesnt have much to spend so whats a good car for him to buy??

whatever it is, it's probably going to have to be old because of the "reasonably cheap" part. 6k could get you a little ae86 which has drift potential if thats in your price range.

His budget is around 5k

He keeps going on about silvias but if he gets one he wont have the money to mod the car aswell.

And the new laws are ridiculous. I can see them banning some very high performance cars but cars like wrx's and shit dont have a lot of power in their stock form.

Im only no my learners and went out in a monaro putting out 275kw atw on the weekend and had it full lock sideways in the industrial estate. Its not the laws that need to change its the quality of driving that needs to change for those of you who dont agree with me

I'm not aware on the laws regarding modifications in the Eastern States but I'd definately be looking into an N14 SSS, might even be able to find a cheap jap spec for 5k but I doubt it. Naturally aspirated SR20 is a bit of fun in stock form and theres plenty of aftermarket support out there (aggressive cams, quad throttle bodies) for those motors.

im on new laws doesnt bother me. harden up u cant change them move on work around them. 5 grand = 1 vl some welding gear, maby some tyres. u wont get into driffting with that kinda money anyway. ull go out first week do a skid go oh shit i need new tyres oh shit my clutch oh shit my motor, he will quickly learn that its a costly sport...my 2 cents..

I love seeing these threads...............There is always someone (generally the topic starter) that believes they are an awesome driver, and the "gay" new laws shouldn't apply to them because of their hektik skills behind the wheel.

I got news for you champ.............You don't drive even half as good as your mind allows you to believe. As a driver trainer, I see a constant flow of different new drivers, with varying levels of skill, NONE of which i would say could safely get a car sideways(Even in a controlled environment).

I can tell you now, I could Catch you on enough driving errors within 10 mins of driving to fail your driving test.

Im know there probably is a lot of things wrong with my driving and i know im not as good as i should be but that hasnt stopped me doing well over the speed limit. I will continue to drive like that cuz im not real concerned about killing myself. In actual fact for those of you concerned i hop ei do kill myself. Im not afraid to have a crash.




Oh and WRX's arent that fast. 160kw of power isnt a lot. not in stock form. not fast enough anyway. i work at a subaru dealership and they only really get to 150-160ish up the onramp. sure they got a lot of potential but ther not fast stock

It's not the fact that they are fast in stock form or not, but it's the experience in driving them.

For example: You may be driving "normally" but when boost hits' in at the wrong moment, you may or may not know what to do.

Yer but with factory boost in a newer WRX of only 8pound its not a lot and with the AWD setup its pretty hard to get them to spin out. if you had bald tyres, wound the boost up shitloads and really turned hard then im sure you could get yourself in trouble. thats just my opinion.

You cant drive stupid on the road all the time but if its a empty road and the conditions are right it doesnt hurt

I laugh at these people that say they aren't afraid to have a crash bla bla bla. Would love to take them to an emergency ward at a hospital and see the results of serious car crashes, and the pain for not only the victims but for the families and friends it causes.
