Hey guys. I have a 80 model GH Scorpion. I am looking to get into drifting and was wondering what i would need to do to the old scorp to get it driftworthy??
Its fairly stripped out and has half decent suspension already, what else would i need to do?
Does anyone know if they have a factory LSD? I heard somewhere that one of the models came out with factory LSD but im not sure if that was for AUS models.

Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks

i'd say even if it did have a factory lsd, chances would be it's not going to work too well. probably best to replace/recondition or go backyard styles and weld it.

also, try to get the suspension as stiff as you can.

the best thing would probably be to just head to a track and give it a go. as you get better you'll figure out the things that need improving in the car, and continue to improve as it does.
wooley
will need a major power upage not to much power pumping outta those thing is it goin to be treet registered

Its not about power, Sort out yaself some good suspension then a diff and get a good wheel alignment and go from there..

a 32/36 dgav weber is a easy quick upgrade though might need a little fiddleing/tuning to get right.
Is it 2lt or 2.6lt? either way a starion exhaust manfold will bolt on, a draw through turbo system wouldn't be too hard to set up, if the motor is in good condition i should hold up to low boost for a while. anything more would require a full build, but the 4g5# do have good potential

if it's a track only car, then weld the diff up, you'll get some plough understeer going but, you should be able to work around it and learn(it'll stop you from just trying to power over too). make sure your handbrake grabs good and check that your clutch is up to the task.

If power is to hard to get then just strip everything out of it, how far you go depends on whether you'll drive it on the street. seats, flooring, roof lining, parcel shelf, deadening(in cab and under the car too), doorcards window regulators, air-con, blower motor, trims, etc. I'm sure you can find more.

make sure all your suspension is tight, balljoints, rod-ends, bushes all in good condition then get a descend wheel alignment, try to get a bit of neg camber and a few mm toe-out on the front would be a start, then work from there.

You cannot bolt a starion exhaust manifold to a (standard ) scorpion engine . The starion is a sirius motor, the sigma /scorp had an astron style.
What he means is that you can bolt a sigma turbo exhaust manifold to the scorp head ...and then you can go from there .
There are a few web sites where yoiu can get ideas from for this .

I had 205rwhp and that was just from a carburettor/turbo combo.
Try sigma-galant .com...there is even a scorpion section .

Cheers
ps the scorp diff wasn't LSD (for Aus) but it is reknowned to be very strong...strong as sigma if not better ...you will break the gearbox first probably lol.

Pretty sure the Scorpions have a Borg Warner diff in them? Which means you can source lsd's from falcons, commodores, and R31 skylines. From memory it's a 25 spline diff though.

sorry, sigma turbo, not starion. but if you managed to find a yank starion, they had a 4G54 turbo.

as for borgies, r31, falcon and VL turbo all run similar 28 spline BW78 with a four pinion center.
other commodores run two pinion centres

The diff Mitsubishi used in the Scorpion was an imported number and was a hell of a lot stronger than any Borg Warner your likely to find in a Sigma. As for LSD's, the Aussie Scorpions didn't have one from factory, and a commo/falcon/R31 LSD centre will not fit in a Sigma Borg Warner diff. Different models, i think (Sigma: BW M70, Commodore/R31: BW M78 or something like that). Best option is to grab a diff from (don't laugh) a Volvo 244 as they are cheap as and last FOREVER behind a motor of up to about 300kw. If you don't believe me, go for a Hilux diff as you can get bucketloads of different ratios, lsd's, etc. You could always weld up the Scorpion diff if you want to go cheap but make sure you do a good job.

just my 2c worth smile.gif

Cheers
