Hey folks, well ive always held an interest in photo work but never got round to investing in anything, well worth while. So about 3-4 months ago while in Hong Kong i bought myself a nice new Canon and began experimenting.
Earlier, i held the impression that its basically point and shoot, oh dear how wrong i was. All about balance and now hold alot of respect for people who can use these things to their full potential.
Here's some of what ive been going with so far. Would really like some insight from all the other experienced users on here

And a few more. Regarding the two individual tree shots, i think they'd work alot better with nothing around the base area, kinda distracting from the main idea, realised that while editing. And with the sunset, i decided to use more sky as ive found that most sunsets where its in the middle seems a tad boring sometimes.

Ok, your car shots are not too bad but this last lot need a little help, my main piece of cc would be a lack of focal point. The two tree are well trees, would you frame then for the wall? maybe ad a person walking or a dog or some birds...they also look a bit overexposed but I actually think it is the time of day they were taken, no definition in the sky etc Another thing to remember is white balance, a couple of your dog shots look a bit blue/green, if it is clowdy choose that white balance in your camera that will give warmth to your shots. Hope this helps.

Thanks mate, the WB was set to auto in those shots, finished early from work and just whipped it out while letting the dogs go for a run. But thanks for the tips

Very helpful.

As you will be able to tell, i played around with the saturation on two of the photo's, on some of the others it brought out the blue very nicely, just had to try and keep it away from the yellow markers on the poles.

Yeah most of the Honda guys all cruise together, like not many venture out onto other organised cruises etc. Im a Honda owner aswell, it's just mine has been off the road for about 6 months so the camera just comes along with me as a passenger most days. The CRX though since its come up from Melbourne id be assuming one of the quickest gen 2's in QLD. It ran an 11.7 down in Melbourne with a full-time drag driver, the best it's owner managed was a 12.2 he told me.

Yeah i bumped the shutter up to 320 since i wasn't getting as much sharpness as i was hoping for, started off around 200.
I got the 1D off a guy i met through work, name was Jason.

Also, was out today with the 1D, havent had the time to use it much, but i had the 2.8 on the end of it, and one thing ive read is that the AF speed combined with 45 point focus was pretty dam good.
But i found that i'd focus on one object, then pan the camera maybe 30 degrees to my right/left, and it would take at least 1 second (might not seem that long but looking through the viewfinder it seems like forever) to pick up on the new object. Tried the same thing with the 400 and it seemed faster then the 1D. Now i havent had the chance to use it at events like Street Torque so i can't really make a fair comparison, but are there any other users that use/have used the classic 1D?

The colours don't seem very warm, at the time wasn't watching the white balance, had it set on auto.

Oct 14 2008, 07:25 PM
Seems to be fairly faithful to me, on an uncalibrated monitor.. Well at least the dog isn't yellow etc..
1D may be a bit slower than the 400 as it is older so the AF wouldn't be as good. It makes you realise just how close the baby cameras are to the big guns.
Kane
Oct 14 2008, 07:42 PM
Yeah i know what you mean. Basically i wanted something with a quicker frame rate then the 400, and i knew the the mk1 was pretty much a 5 year old camera, but im still impressed with other features and how it can still hold its own amongst some of the newer models. Obviously its no MK2 or 3, but it still has a quick focus, and from the reviews which have only been made in the last year about how it stacked up against other models for AF, it was rated very highly, just seemed a bit odd. The camera itself is mint, no scuff marks, nothing. And under 10,000 actuations. And as i told Dave, i grabbed it for $300 plus a carton, so why wouldn't you.
But the 45 point focus is something im dying to try out at some drifting or other automotive event. But after street torque, i was really impressed with how the 400 held up. I thought of getting rid of it, but it kinda made me reconsider into keeping it.
