A nice car - but still can't see how they're fetching the prices they are when there are alot more exclusive muscle cars that don't go near the same price... I mean we're talking about 68 GT500 Mustangs, Z28 and Baldwin Motion Camaro's, Some nice varieties of Chargers, etc. all in that price bracket...

Here is more info on the XY GT if you want it
Released in 1971 the XY GTHO Phase 3 was the fastest sedan in the world at the time. Sporting a 351 Cleveland V8 with a four-barrel Holley 780 cfm carburettor and a higher compression ratio of 11.5:1, a combination which ensured power was nothing short of 275kw (370hp) at 5400 rpm.
The ‘HO’ stood for ‘Homologation Option’ and meant you got bigger brakes, stiffer suspension, a front spoiler, a choice of 3 differentials and an optional close-ratio gearbox making the production GTHO very similar to the race version.

Could be less mate. remember back in the day they didn't think the car would be worth so much so many got thrashed and destroyed. You would be lucky to find 150 alive still.
Oh and the RT charger was faster over the 400 then the big ol phase 3 by 0.1 of a second

There are so many fakes out there its not funny.
Restamped blocks so engine numbers match
Plates swapped onto other XY's.
Oh and a Factory Sigma Turbo was only a few km/h slower in a straight line.

I love the GTHOs, but the prices they are bringing is pretty ridiculous IMHO.
As said there are rarer cars, that aren't even worth as much. Infact even though it was the fastest 4 door car in the world for quite a few years, I doubt many people outside of Aus would know about it.

this is what i am trying to get at with the rarity of them.
cuz there is so many fakes it's hard to find an original and when you do you just have to appreciate the fact that it's an original and that you probably won't see many of these ionic ausie muscle cars in your life

lovely cars, personally I prefer the Phase II GTHO's.
Mate from highschools old man has an original Phase III GTHO with an original 3000miles on the ODO and a complete set of spare globe wheels still in boxes. It is immaculate.

I really do like the Phase III as a car, I'd never pay the prices they demand now, but money aside a nice car.
Would love one done up in race paint like Moffat's old one.
Here is a good link from the 08 Bathurst weekend they had in Easter this year of a onboard from the XY.

Bloke who lives near me has one of the six black ones ever made, he bought it as a stock XY falcon and got a call from the cops a few years later, turns out the car was stolen and stripped for parts before being changed over to a stock falcon with only the plates on the chassis showing it to be an original GTHO, original owners already got their payout so he got to keep the car and he restored it to the GTHO it once was.

So what happened in regards to the engine and vin plates? Did he ever recover them?

basicly there a classic muslce car and fuk the sigma turbo might be nearly as fast or the rt charger might of been quicker over the 1/4 but none of these cars have the style and pure class of a great aussie muslce car people just dont reconize wat a great car they are and wat theyve done for the australian automotive industry.in my opion the best car ever made just a shame not a whole lot of em are around

Vermillion fire is the best color for the ute. justfangit would not be a genuine factory gt.
cheers.
XYGT Falcon colour range was as follows.
" H " - Track Red
" S " - Electric Blue
" X " - Monza Green
" 9 " - Nugget Gold
" E " - Quick Silver
" T " - True Blue
" U " - Ultra White
" 6 " - Vermillion Fire
" I " - Jewel Green
" O " - Yellow Ochre
" 2 " - Bronze Wine
" Z " - Wild Violet
" Q " - Yellow Glow
but there were other XYGT's with colours like these;
" F " = Vintage Burgundy
" B " = Black
" D " = Raw Orange
" C " = Bold Blue
" F 289 " = Surfer Orange
" L " = Limelight Metallic
" EZ 099 " = Shell Yellow
" 5 " = Tealglow
" SPEC " = Whatever You Like
Trim colours for XYGT's were " B " for Black, " " S " for Light Saddle and " W " for White.
Any of these codes followed by a " 2 " meant that they came with a cloth insert option.

the rpo 83 is nothing like a phase four. option 83 was just a load of engine parts they had ready for a phase four that never took place. it might be a bullnose toploader, fined drum brakes or a biiger carby every rpo 83 car has somehting different to the last.
BUY MY XY!

As much as I'm a fan of muscle-cars there is a huuuge tendency to overate these cars. They're nothing special IMO and I think it's hilarious that we pay the prices for them here when outside of Australia no one knows or cares about some 4dr aussie sedan with a V8. The aussie coupes will always be sexier, the Phase III's have just been trumped up because of their rarity.
Big deal I say, bah humbug. Give me a Charger or XC coupe any day of the week.

Fuck they are a nice car, would love to get one. Little known fact tho, the six cylinder model was faster to 60 mph that the v8 in stock form. Read it in a street ford mag.

I love all GT's. Especially the phase III and the XC Cobra. My dad owned a XB Goss as his first car then a XC Cobra for his Second. Was quite shoked when he saw the current price of them

XW and XY are sensational looking cars but XA to XC falcons are quite simply terrible looking cars how they could go from something looking so awesome to a pig of a car has got me beat
