Hi all,

just a quick few questions about protectors for canon lenses

On my old 70-300mm lens i had a 58mm DHG Super Lens Protect mounted on the end of it.

Basically it was to protect the end of the lens just in case i scratched it or i had to clean it and if the cleaning went bad and it scratched it well id rather throw away the protector and replace it.

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with these protectors and if they are a worth while thing to get? do they effect the over all image quality or should i stay away from them.

The reason i am asking is i am thinking of picking up a 70-200mm L lens shortly and wanted to know if it was a good idea to have one of these to put on the lens when i purchase it.

I've never heard them called protectors i used to use UV filters on all my lenses for protection and it did work i dropped my old 70-300 Nikon and yeah smashed the filter but lense was fine.

I shoot with UV filters over the lens. I use Hoya.

Lance do you shoot at night with that on or only during the day?
the current one i have now i leave on all the time, so i don't forget it.

I shoot with it on during the night too.

i bought my 17 40 L no protector and got stone chip the same day from the crusty demons whoops i dont use one in that but i do use one on the 70 200

ah thats no good to get a chip in the lens the first day.

well i think i will be going for the lens protector for my new lens. Dave do you recommend any brand of lens protector? Also would you get just a clear one or a UV one? if a UV one can i be using it at night as well?

i have only shot with the clear ones. are there any draw backs for using a UV one at night?

uv is clear and i just use UV Hoya or a SKYLIGHT filter ( same shit basicly cant notice the difference )

UV doesnt do much anyways. for me iots more protection. i never ever take it off.

X2, ive got a Kenko and i use it for protection purposes, stays on all the time.

I used to find at night shooting drift at Archerfield i would get ghosting from the cars headlights because of the UV filter.

i aint using filters, just lens hoods for protection, nah mean?
