I think for what the subjet matter is.... you have done alright.
Only things are.... IMO....
1. Photo 1. - beware of close ups with fences. Fences look better if you see a whole lot of them. No a little segment.
2. 2nd dog shot is average to the 1st one. Angle wise.
3. Use PS and get rid of the couple of powerlines in the headstone shot. Sky is a nice spread blue and would be easy to do.
4. Photo of the brown poles in the playground is not exciting.... but that is more choice of subject metter.
If you are just fooling around with a cheaper camera...... you have done alright

And yeh he is an awsome dog well he is like a human more than a dog.

Try not to do a pet as a photograph, sure he is your pet, take the images, but for me its a dog.. try taking some more landscapes!

I'm like the rain photo but maybe increase the contrast a little just to give it some pop. But you do have a couple of standout pics, with the pics of the rusted shed in your first post instead of just standing back and taking the pic get in close take an pic of a section of the shed like a rusted nut try so different angles mix it up, try different things play with the colours in photoshop and see what you can come up with. Hopefully that made sense.

Thanks for the comments, im taking them all in. I understand what you mean with the dog, he is just part of he family, and doesnt mean anything to you. i wont post him up anymore. I want to get out and get some more Landscapes but it has been to wet or to hot (Fu%kin MELBOURNE).
As for the rain shot I thought it was getting a bit dark already so im not sure about going anymore darker, its also in black n white. and about getting in close for really detailed shots such as a rusty nut, my camera doesnt like close ups they always come out blured and OOF.

Youre getting to close then to the subject. check what the closest (macro) you can go, before it starts not focusing.
Rusty nail is cleche` too

Lance I will get out and take some more landscapes in the next couple of days if it doesnt rain. and with the close ups my camera is fu%ked, if I dont stand far away they are all OOF its rubbish. Im looking at buying a new camera in the next month or so, got any suggestions. I was thinking either a Canon 40D or a NIKON D80.
Ghetto Panda
Jan 27 2008, 08:28 PM
I would maybe suggest getting maybe a second hand Nikon D70 or maybe a Canon 400d. A SLR is a big step but going straight to a d80 is a big step and a 40d is a huge step and honestly not needed, get a cheaper camera get some better than average lenses and go from there.

Thanks, but i'd rather just buy a good one straight up and learn how to use it then I wont out grow it and have to sell it then upgrade again later down the track. Im looking into doing a photography course, so while I have the money to buy a good camera now i may as well. thats how I see it anyway

.
The shot with the chick is ment to have the sunnies there as like a feature or something. The biggest problem I found with that pic is the bird shit on the seat

i love the colours you get hey.
only c+c is keep horizons 100% straight.
in photoshop go to filters > distort > lens correction the a box will appear on the left second option down select that, then drag from left to right the line where you want the straight axis.
thank gheto panda for that, he taught me that ages ago

Thanks for the comments, I tried to get the horizons straight as I could. I tried to do it the way you said Lance but when I go in Filters > Destort I dont have lenses in there as an option. I straightened the horizons by using the ruler to get a straight line then going to Rotate canvas > Arbitray and ajust it a few degrees after that just crop off the blank canvas. Would you know why I dont have LENSES in filters>destort ? Maybe I need a newer version of Photoshop? I have version 5.5.

yeah, get photoshop CS2 or CS3, CS3 being the newer obviously. If you need a hand, pm me mate and i can help over MSN.

Hey Adam, great looking shots so far. Your compostition skills are good. I am also learning, but I think you should wait for better light in the landscapes! They seem very flat and lifeless. The series of shots you post on feb 10 would've been great with better light.
Also I think you need to include more foreground. Shot 5 would've be better utilising the lead-in lines of the road more, I think. Way too much sky for me.
That's just my opinion
Keep up the good work

Living in Melbourne the weather changes like...... who knows. When I went out to take those Landscapes the weather was perfect, but after driving for 45 minutes the weather had changed, and I was there so I was taking some photos. I quite liked them as the are different from all my other Landscapes I have taken with clear, bright blue skyes. these have a bit more clouds and darkness.
With shot 5 and a few others, they are all about the sky, that what I was looking for just a little blue then big fluffy clouds leading to the dark storm clouds that were comming.
But I hope to get back out there soon as there are alot more good pics out there to be taken, and hopfully the weather will be fine.
Thanks again.

Art is open to interpretation, that's the good thing about it! a certain piece can mean a myriad of different things to different people. What I think is about socialism and the effects of the modern multinational culture of ignorance on the new generations you might think is about the pretty blue sky or a big old tree..
I, for one, like appreciating art for what it is, not trying to draw some massive statement from a photo of a blade of grass or some paint on a canvass.

Hey man,
I've just been having a flick through your shots and you remind me a fair bit of myself when I started out with photography. You're getting some good stuff.
I'll be sure to give you some full feedback on your next set. If I can give you anything general it would be to work on your focal points, they are often fairly off.

Thanks heaps. I really like 3 aswell, it's one of my favorites. I finally got the manual focus to work on the camera, it wasnt working properly other times so all the other pic are just auto focus.. I love the detail you can get with it, so I should have some more better ones in the commong days. Is all I can say is I cant wait to get a real Camera.
