guys i have a vp ute with a turboed 6 knocking out 190rwkw, its on superlows with 31mm front sway bar to knock some over steer out of it as most know they like to steer themselves threw corners. its a 5 speed with 3.45:1 LSD is there anything else i can do to get it roughly set to drift apart from a strut brace.

yeah i think its all been bushed, i'm not sure of the brand but they are a blue/green color, would it be worth my while gettin adjustable strut tops to crank more camber in and possible the VR/VS lower controls arms as well as i think they are longer then the VN/VP

u can buy front camber kits for them.
adjustable swaybars at both ends, so they are 'tuneable' to a degree
good steer tyres and a decent wheel align
make sure the lsd is nice and tight, shagged lsd's are dangerous to drift with.
prehaps a good bucket seat to hold u nice and tight
and more then anything, just take it out to the track and have a go, u wil soon find out its flaws.

um just so you know, the vr/vs lower control arms aren't interchangeable with vn/vp ones. but..... you should be able to change to the vr/vs lower arms if you use the vr/vs struts to suit because they go together differently. that means changing the strut tops to the 3 stud vn/vp type. but you then also have to change the steering rack to a vr/vs one because the rack joins at a different position to the vn/vp one. but that may be just a waste of time because i'm pretty sure the track on the front end is identical from vn-vs. well thats my 2c and something for you to ponder on.

thanks for the info rayder, i haven't spent much time under the vr/vs to compare them but i did know that they had a slightly wider track at the bottom but didn't know that that is wasn't interchangeable.
rayder
Apr 21 2008, 08:06 AM
well as i said, they are interchangeable but you need to change pretty much everything else but the k-frame with it. the only reason i know this is because i used to pull them apart for a living and i was going to do the same thing on my vn.

Sounds tuff in real life.. was up behind it through Inala/Richlands area in my daily coming back from work a while ago, sounds real tough mate, as for mods, a decent seat, and in my experience a half cage/ some sort of chassis bracing helps heaps.

noltec solid strut tops allow your to fit vr/vs struts into vb/vp commodores but they are pricey at about $600pr

you can use a ute in Drift australia, the capa ute compete's every round, plus all the demo work. Hang on, that makes commodores the most succesful drift chassis does'nt it (50man, Bolger,Mingay) not to mention 2nd best engine (50man, Bolger,Mingay,Elhouli, that 300zx)
a bit of topic but can you drift utes in comp in aussie?
i knwo u cant in D1NZ

Aug 17 2008, 12:05 PM
Umm sorry mate^^ capa ute doesnt compete and hasnt competed in a few years. Mingay and Bolger use fairly stock VZ utes for the ute demos they do, but neither are running LS# engines in there drift cars only Elhouli is running an LS2 and Mackie in the 300 is running an LS1.
No sure bout utes in D1NZ but hamish marsden is running a Onevia Ute this season so not sure if that counts as a ute or not.
Btw theres a guy in NSW who used to drift WG spec VR 5L ute wit basically no mods and was doing extremely well, but moved onto other cars.
