Ive got an bmw e36 now. auto dumped etc. just a cruise car.

But im i wana sell it and get a manual one and turbo it. maybe bore the head out to a 2L. instead of normal 1.8L.

Maybe a t28 turbo or something a little bigger. I want something unique. Because you gotta admit, seeing a massive front mount intercooler behind a m3 bar would look pretty mean, coz you could see the piping where the brake ducts go. Would be pretty sleeperish if it just had some 18's on it.

What do you ppl think? My mates brother owns Mrturbo i think or something along those lines so parts shouldnt be too expensive.

let me know what you guys think? Personally i only know of one turbo e36 and that pumps 550hp at the wheels, with 22" rims mind you he forked around 40k or some stupid amount for the engine and rims etc. But there would be a couple out there, not exactly a skyline where you see so freaking many everyday with fmic lol.

It sounds like you dont really understand whats involved here

This is by no means impossible the E36 body will take any of the BMW engine variants excepting maybe the V12 due to width . The LS1 chev small block being an easy way to make this car get up and boogey .

All variants of the BMW engine family have been turbocharged quite sucessfully along with conversions like the SR ( T ) series from Nissan , Toyota etc .

For an amatuer or learner racer the automatic gearbox provides consistency and easier learning curve and will usually take the repeated punishment for longer and often lower shock loading on diff as well subject to convertor selection etc .

Best shot you sit down first and figure out wether you can afford it and exactly what you want to achieve and plan it out

A " bored out head " is not a step in the right direction

a fella in capalaba has had his 318is e46 turboed and that thing has been running for ages. its not the quickest thing around but it makes 300rwhp with a 7 grand kit! but he did do a lot of the pipe work himself! and that is a pretty much standard motor

Why not just do something crazy and buy a 325 or m3? And turbo that, the 325 m50 or m52 engine can see up to 700hp turbo with pretty much stock internals, there isnt much point spending money doing up a m42 that comes in a e36 because a e36 isnt the lightest car.

nice conversion.

and if you want an out an out drag car, 2 speed power glide, and dont even worry about a BMW as a drag car, yes different and you dont see many but there is a reason behind that.'

buy a cheap vl and make a drag car.

a bit of mining here but I have had a bit of experience with BMWs and can say that the smaller 4cyls are a waste of time.

I have had stroker 2.7L M20s in older e21s & e30s and they do get up and go, fat torque curve but still are not high revving motors. Boosted applications they do well but for what you are trying to achieve and with probably an budget under 10k I'd advise an engine swap.

3 series BMWs are relatively short wheelbase cars and for drags you want to get weight to the rear end. The LS1 is a great motor and with some modifications (I know of an e30 getting this transplant) will go in. Will be an expsensive exercise and put some weight over the front wheels.

On another note the RB series I would say would be my pick. They are very similar in weight & dimensions to the BMW 6cyl and will produce some good numbers. Keep it manual for fun and drags, will take some practice with launches and gearchanges but can be done. On the other hand my next project will be an e21 with a 13b T. I'd love to see this in a newer model.

That should give you some ideas, a bit of research and what $$$s you want to spend will help you out. I'm doing an RB20 into an e21 atm and can help with info on engine/gearbox mounts etc. let me know

Food for though, last time I went to w/bank T&T there was a new V8 M3 and a E46 M3. The E46 was supercharged 6 and struggled to do better than a 13.9 ET, the V8 wasnt much quicker.

Doing an '88 M3 at the moment, from my knowledge of it it's running a purpose built M3 turbo engine, GT30 and in the realms of two bar of boost. When the owner comes in next, I'll see if I can hit him up for some more information.
