Hey mate i use to have a vh sle 308 , anyways if you are ever gunna get this thing going fast with out a stroker ya gunna need a 100hp shot of nos, higher diff gears, big stall converter, head work, big ass lumpy cam springs etc, maybe throw in a set of slicks, advance timing as much as you can and run some sort of race fuel, and like you said bigger carby and manifold, and also if you havent done so all ready get an exhaust nothing to overkill on it, extractors, and also if you dont want to stroke it how about super chargeing it or turbo, one other thought too would be if you wanted to go quicker and its not going to be a street car why not strip the car of weight etc, hope this info helped ya mate

hey bud if you want to go as far as building a full house 308 my opionoin would be to build a hi comp bottom end around 12-13:1 static compression get some nice alloy heads for it brodex do nice sbc heads or similar . as for a cam shaft you will want some thing around a crane 300 they are quite a nice camshaft not too over the top with soem where arounf 520 tho lift on a std rocker arm ... all that would be built for methanol .... so thats one option if you want to retain std bottom end and use petrol id suggest still sonthing like a crane 300 get some porting work done on the heads maybe mill a poofteenth of the heads and inlett and withthe extra comp id run c16 in a seperate fuel cell for the nitrous just to stop it detonating its a comon thing to do ... but oyu should with gas nut a 10 out of it . the gear set is aout where you wanna be but id look in to a nice converter somthign around 4-4500 and if your trimatic is fullmanual id also look in to a transbrake but then your tailshaft/diff will cop a hiding but hey your looking at building a race car ... all jsut depends on your budgt ....... also upgrade the spark systme and you wont look back somethign like a digi7 and pro billet dizy with 10 mm leads..... the digi will help retard timin as the gas comes in ... hope that i have helped

alot of people I know run 288s and 282 solid cams with L34 heads no nos. but throwing in my 2 cents in I would go vn heads with harrop as they work well with nos and a 5000 stall.
If you are going to put nos in I would recomend to know everything that you are going to do then ring up a cam shop and ask them what cam. They will know better than anyone also dont by cheap shit if running nos. billet and forged are your friends.
my car did 12.4 with l34 heads shit performer manafold 282 solid 750 mighty demon msd6 and 5000 stall only running 8.76 compression as was going to super charge it. now just going to buy cheap horsepower 355 come stroker kit $1995 11.1 comp set up and reliable all day long.

I would strongly suggest a stroker. The extra cubes will do no harm that's for sure. With big shots of NOS, you are going to need forged pistons and the uprated ARP 2000 rod bolts. A bottom end girdle wouldn't go astray either.

Would you buy a new carburetor? If so, get a Pro Systems carb. I can not recommend these guys highly enough. They custom build to your engine, gearing, fuel and weight of car.

Nitrous kit? If you are serious about it, you are going to want to get a twin stage NOS Pro shot fogger kit. That's 2 stages of nitrous!!!

You will need a good nitrous controller like Jacobs mastermind. They plug in to all aftermarket ignitions.

Also, you want a standalone fuel system preferably running race fuel like C16 for when the nitrous is on.

If you don't get the nitrous right it will hurt you.

a cc 300 cam has 601 thou lift and is pretty huge for a 308!! I was running a 308 with cc 288 cam with ported vl heads and a torker manifold 750 barry grant with 10.5-1 comp with trimatic and 4.11 gears in a vl and ran 11.8!! You can get a 308 going hard but for the money your going to spend your better off with a 355, kits are cheap. I'm now running a 355 with 11.3 comp same drive line but with a torque power manifold and making a lot more horse power and more torque initial testing has yeilded 368hp at the wheels! And thats with vl heads! Its all about the combo mate get that right and you'll have half the battle won! Good luck with the build bud!

your best bet would be a turbo or 2 mate 308's are an awsome engine to turbo, very little lag because of the firering order or some thing not quite sure exactly how that works but i know they are great to turbo, and produce great resualts, not to many geting around on the street either, would be some thing a little different
pvk308
a good option would be as stated run vn heads and a harrop manifold i have a standard stroke 308 with vn heads running 11.1 1/4 mile times WITHOUT n2o and on standard pump fuel 98 ron so it can be done mate

what combo are you using to run 11.1?? full street trim, commodore or torana?
