Wanting to run an inline 6 with triples. Are the 250 c/flow engines a good match or the holen 3.3/202. I know the nissan L series is along with the hemis but these motor are'nt to easy to come by here in W.A

The 2.8 and 3.3 is a popular fit for Webers and its easy to get manifolds from Redline still i believe

To really enjoy them you need plenty of revs and a real good regular tune up or it can be a pain .

Hope you have deep pockets if you want to buy new ones or try and see them running if second hand .

Be careful with the quality of part used if needing rebuild too .

thanks for the reply HEADSENSE, If I'm unable to find the datsun skyline I'm looking for 78/79 I'm going to have to look seriously at the holden range. I do like the idea of the 4.1 ford motor due to it's size but still don't know if they are a good revver and wether or not they go well with triples. I do like the idea of a 4.1 cortina which may also be an option.'' so many choices''.

The triple webers go like a dream on the holden 6's. I went for new and at the time i paid a bit over $700 each. It pays to shop around, it was cheaper for me to buy them from Sydney and ship them up rather than buy through the local distributor here in Brisbane. Redline manifolds are still available new. Mine don't miss a beat with the right tune. On the street or on the track go like a dream.

as head sense said, i hope you enjoy fairly regular trips to the tuner to keep her running sweet, the L2# series motors are great, and go well... but there is so many parts for the local engines these days too means u can build something that will handle the revs and make use of the triples.

my cousin has a 240z with a L28 bottom end, pulled 150rwhw with triple 45mm delorettos, not cheap, but the aural pleasure is great biggrin.gif

I've had a bit of a play with the cross flow engines and found being a fairly square engine at 93.1 x 99.5 mm bore and stroke aiming to build a high torque motor was the better approach as opposed to multicarb high revving type engine .

When using aggressive high lift cams and substantially increasing the rev range we always used to run into valve train and ignition issues .

The most common being bent push rods and stripped distributor drive gears on both cam and distributor . Still when it ran right it kicked arse for what it was .

I guess this engine has come back from the dead with turbo charging as you can increase the volumetric efficiency of the engine with out raising the rev limit to high or over stressing it

If you want to go N/A cross flow may be consider triple injection throttle bodies ( Try Injection Perfection ) or I have seen photos of triple gas carbs made using forklift gas throttle bodies .

Or for cross flow engine advice talk to guys tied up in speed way as this engine seems to have more hisotry and development in this sport

Just my opinion though ..........talk to some people over at fordforums.com.au as well

Thanks for your replies, I'm going to look at a VK 3.3 5 speed RED sedan Tomorrow. The guy wants 1700 ono for it so probably worth a look. Question : would the 5 speed box handle engine mods and triples and what diff ratio can I expect to find in the V.K. It's a carb model. Question 2 : are you allowed to take efi off and replace with carbs {in W,A }

Forgot to mention: I used to have a 78 datsun skyline running a 280z motor bored to 3 litre, a race cam, custom made exhaust and lots of strong internal stuff. It was fed with triple 45 webbers that were a dream. Overall it must have been a combination that just blended as this car for what it was could absolutely fly and it had a very throaty growl. Why Why Why did I ever sell it, and of course isold it to my mate. He has since dumped the car and put the motor and attachments into storage, yep he won't sell it back to me,perhaps I should put his name and email on this site and everyone can send him hate mail on my behalf. What a shame he's a nice bloke.
Sixes may not be the quickest, but they sound the sickest.

Set up a decent linkage system and webers will not go out of tune. Contrary to popular belief, webers won't generally just fall out of tune, it's almost always a crap linkage that develops slop or loosens off or something similar. Spend some time and think hard about it and you should be able to develop a nice linkage system that will serve you well and won't fall out of tune

Would have thought the Vk will most likely have 2.78 , 3.08 or 3.36 gear in it depending on order spec .

The 5 speed was not a particularly strong box and would be well tired by now i imagine . How you intend to drive it wil be the thing . Sound like a good candidate for Celica 5 spd conversion down the track

I think you'll find in any state now you must meet the minimum emission spec for the year of your vechile . You are allowed to install later model enignes and then the vechile must comply with the emissions requirement applicble to that engine in the year it was manufactuered .

Most states allow the fitment of LPG only fuel systems in order to meet emissions if fitting older or foreign engines .

In short NO as far as i'm aware

friend of mine in WA just bought a set of triple 45's,manifold and linkages from Motorsport Autos in the states for US$1399 for his 260z......good buying when the aussie dollar is above US90c
