lol, as soon as i seen skate park i sed omg.

im 16 too, money is always a problem but things just take a little longer thats all.
it all depends on how serious and how good you want your skatepark pics to be. for some serious full on skate park pics, your gunna need the basic lenses, maybe a 50mm, some sort of zoom and a widey like a sigma 10-22mm (i think its 22) or even better a 15mm fish.

you will also need flashes and something to trigger them. you will need at a minimum 2 flashes.

to trigger them you will need some sort of radio system, dont even bother about optical slaves.

you can get the expensive pocket wizards, these are awesome, i dont have them, but a friend does. never ever failed him. these are probably the best wireless flash triggers out these imo

or you can do what i done, i bought the cheapo ebay radio slaves, they work fine, only thing is that one of myne misfires every now and then. they would probably be the best option for you as your not sure your gunna stick with it.

get on some skate or bmx photography forums and look around, you will learn lots.

alright thanks for that mate will deff look in to it now, but kind of money am i looking at spending to get started. thanks again though.

IF your only JUST getting started, dont waste your time on expensive equipment.... i used to be into photography when i was 15 etc but i had a nervous shake. Now last year i picked up a camera again and realised my shake had gone. I started taking shots with my camera phone (3.2mp) and loved it more and more and realised i wanted to do it for a profession.

Then and only then did i decide to up my equipment which cost me $3000 for DSLR camera and lighting all from ebay.

I took my portfolio to a couple of portrait place (which contained mostly shots from my camera phone) and i landed a job with one of them.

My point is get a piece of shit and use it for a while so that you are sure its what you want to do. Not many people will buy a second hand camera for full price if you change your mind.

Maybe even try cashies for a cheap something.

Hope that helps

ok, you could do that with skate pics, but it would only be good for learning how to compose. ask any, i mean any decent skate photographer and they will say you need decent gear
Fozzy
i would like to do it as a job, bit of course i am only sixteen, i mean i am willing pay up to $350 on camera but relise that if i get into it and relise that it is not something i would do as a full time job then i can sell it in the local pocket trader and get some money back, hopefully.

He doesn't know if he needs good equipment yet, all he needs is a camera that takes photos.

I took these skating shots at night with an in built flash on a FinePix S500 RRP around $400.

He doesn't need magazine worthy images to find out if he likes it just yet. All he needs is an eye for detail and a passion for what he likes. The passion will show thru no matter what camera you use.

The main thing is that if you can capture a good image on a piece of shit camera then your a good photographer and you should stick with it. ( i dont mean a VGA camera either) At least 2mp and up tongue.gif.)

Mr-RX
Agreed, Both alicia and myself are professional photographers.

We both started out using our mobile phones, Hers was a K800i and mine was a K610i.

We still got ALOT of good shots out of them, As alicia said she scored a professional photography job with a portfoilo using the pictures taken with her K800i.

Its not always the camera, Its the person behind the camera. If you cant take a half decent shot with any camera, Dont expect $5000 equipment to compensate for you.
Fozzy
fair enough, i get what your getting at will have a good hard think about what i should get. thanks again guys
Bwen
You should think about buying just a simple P&S camera and trying to take pictures and learn more about photography in general. P&S cameras wont be that good at taking dark/night time photos so practice in the day time.

I started out with a simple 6 megapixel P&S camera then I found myself a 2nd hand SLR Film camera and experiment with that and now I've moved on to a 400D, it's not what camera you have it's what how you take the pictures basically.
BADEZ
mate all i can say is listen to the guys that have said to u get a cheap one to start with, man 400bucks can get u a decent non SLR camera these days,

u can even get one that has similar fetures but not the changeable lenses so u can get use to shutter speeds sports shooting and see if u really like it

then maybe when u a bit old and out of school or about to finish school u can get one of the better base model slr's
i use a 350d myself and i use it for everything and i onlyhave the basc dual lense kit that is standard.

i know some of the guy that take photos for hot 4s only use a 400D camera its oly a under 2grand camera but its how u use it the stuff attached to it and the editing on the computer that makes a good photographer
Psi
Just get yourself a cheap camera that has good slr features to start with and learn using manual modes. I got a Fujifilm s5600 and its great, nearly as good as base model slr's. I don't see the point in buying a dslr if you're planning on only using the stock twin lens kit. But if you plan to upgrade and spend thousands on lenses then buy a decent body to start with.
Fozzy
well see thats what i thought but i guess i will start out slow, how much did you pay for the s5600, if you dont mind me asking psi.
Psi
I got it cheap for $330 at myer a year ago, they have been replaced by new models in shops but a few months ago most places still had them for $400+. You would be better off to getting a S6500fd as they don't cost much more but have a lot better features and are more similar to a slr. Don't get the s5700 tho it has gotten smaller and is more like a point and shoot.
Fozzy
alright i see, i will have a look around on the net and a couple of local shops, see if i cant find the S6500
TD 06
adam and alicia, may i please see your portfolio of these pictures that scored this professional photography job
Fozzy
yeah for sure i would love to see what a proffesional looks like
Mrs-Rx
Well its a physical portfolio, and I'm the one who is the professional, not adam. I have photos of the first few pages. But its been updated shit loads since then. Both the pages are photos taken with the camera phone. The title page obviously wasn't.

I just realised that only my a100 photos are on the website. So I put them in here http://s120.photobucket.com/albums/o169/Sh.../Sony%20Photos/
Mr-RX
All of those photos in that portfolio were taken with the K800i wink.gif

Here is an example of a cheap fuji point and shoot. an S5000.

Ghetto Panda
External Hard Drives ftw.

I say save for a cheap second hand beginner slr then if you get hooked (which is pretty darn easy) then you can upgrade lenses. But i don't know shit so i would'nt bother listening to me.
Mrs-Rx
Can I just remind you guys that I was a beginner this time last year, My photos aren't hosted on my original thread anymore, but the ones above used to be in there.

I have been there and gone through exactly what he's thinking, I'm just offering advice. Not saying that anyone else's advice is useless. Just answering the questions asked.
