Ok, here we go.......
I'm looking at buying an E39 BMW 535i M-Spec. It was originally from Britain and I believe it has been registered in Victoria.
As it’s currently got vic plates on it and was originally imported, when I go to register it I’ll need to go thru regency so they can do their inspections as to whether it’s stolen, roadworthy etc.
My question is, for euro cars, how easily do they make it thru regency? Do they have any problems with side intrusion bars and that sort of thing, like all the Japanese cars do?
I’ve been trying to find any info about euro cars and regency but haven’t been able to find anything.
I just don’t want to have to spend thousands getting it complied, and thought being a euro car it might get thru relatively easy due to them having high safety standards.
Any help would be appreciated.

get your old man to take it in, coz they'll go easier on him or some1 around the parent mark
mark as in age

how old are we talking here? i'm 25
the thing is when i take it down there i'll be in my full work suit, looking pretty sharp, as I'll be presenting at conferences all over the place on the week i want to take it in
but that is a good point tho, i might get my dad to either take the car himself or come in with me when i take it
i have a hunch tho, as it's a genuine european car, and a bmw, that all safety features and the likes would be there and I wouldn't have to change anything
i know about the gas from the aircon, and that's already been decompressed

All the problems like degassing and Intrusion bars should have been taken care of when the car was complied as that was a requirement to meet the ADR so the car could be complied in the first place. For registering an interstate car take it to the Sturt cop shop they have a shed next to there building where you can get a vehicle id check done, thats where i got mine done for my Skyline when i brought it back from Vic. Those guys are meant to be alot more lenient then the guys at Regency but they will still be picky on things like window tint so if you have it and its dark you might as well remove it now.
Hope that helps

cheers man,
we rang up regency yesterday abotu the car and they said as it was originally from britain, even tho it has been registered in victoria, we have to take it thru a full regency inspection before we can register it in SA
so we've got no choice now but to get the full inspection done
