Hey guys

Does anyone have an old digital slr camera or know where i can pick one up from for cheap?
if you do pm me ASAP with prices and what you have to go with it

mainly looking for just the camera maybe a memory card depending on what it takes.

i dont want to go spending money on something to find that i dont use it.

If your not going to be using on a regular basis, just go and buy a 7.1 mp point and shoot from JB or the like. No point forking out 1k+ on a camera and not using it.

Some of the little cameras are pretty fuggin good. Do your homework before you buy.
mrdoof
i think it would come in handy for birthdays ect when i want clear photos that wont be stuffd.

I not long brought a sony 7mp camera but my friends 5mp dslr fuji shits all over it.

iv loved photography all my life my grandmother is a professional photographer so i think i would use it if i had the equipment.
TD 06
ok, what gear does ur grandmother use? canon, nikon or other? if so, i would buy a body of the same type of her lenses, and be super nice to borry her gear for you camera tongue.gif
mrdoof
pretty sure it was a cannon. she goes on photography tours and shit gets some great pics!
Psi
how much you mean by cheap? ebay probably the best place
mrdoof
depends what the camera is...

im keeping my eye out on ebay...

Buy a hybrid sorta thing like a fujifilm S5600 or 6500 or 9500
TD 06
yeh, yeh are the shit if you dont want to swap lens n shit and muck around, Psi has S5600 pretty mad camera for the price
Ghetto Panda
Have you got like a rough price range you are looking at? do you want an dlsr or is a hybrid kinda slr camera like Harry is talking about so you don't have to worry about changing lenses more what your after?

I think there's a few things you need to ask yourself then that will help people answer your question. If your grandmother is a pro with a Canon then buy something like a 350D if you can stretch it (not knowing how much you wanna spend) then go for a 400d and then just burrow lenses off her, if she is keen to lend em' to you.
mrdoof
depends what the camera is.

for taking general pictures would i need to change the lens or would i be able to use the standard one.

that one seems pretty good. im selling off a few things i dont need so hopefully that would be able to fund most of it.

What would the pros and cons be of getting a hybrid slr as opposed a dslr?

would the lense of a hybrid slr be good enough for general photography and some close ups?

mainly the camera will be used for photographing cars and landscape but will have some use at bdays ect
Psi
whats a hybrid slr?
mrdoof
There the ones with the lense that cant be removed
TD 06
mmmm, where there is a shitload of hybrid slr's then, i think the term your looking for is SLR Like or Semi SLR

basicly the only SLR'ish thing about them is that you can chnage aperture shutter and shit
mrdoof
i was just going by what ghetto panda called them

but i still need to know

What would the pros and cons be of getting a semi slr as opposed a dslr?

would the lense of a semi slr be good enough for general photography and some close ups?

does any one use one of these

I have a P&S, SLR-Like and a dSLR. They all can't be compared with each other, the P&S 6.0mp camera is just for small occasions when I go out and such and don't exactly have room to carry my whole camera bag with my dSLR and lenses.

I think in your interest the SLR-Like/Semi-SLR is fine, don't have to worry about changing lenses and all yet you can still have control of the lens aperture etc.
The question is how much are you willing to spend? If you have the money just go out and buy the Canon 400d, I have one and I love it otherwise you can just stick with a SLR-Like such as a Canon Powershot S1/S3. I have the S3 it's pretty neat, sort of small and takes quite nice shots.

i have been offered a 300D with 18-55mm lens kit for $500
does that sound a bit steep in pricing?

if i can find a dslr then it would be great but if not i may just have to settle for a slr-like camera
PlayerOne
g'day mate... i've got a Fuji S6500fd....(do a search on the specs)... its a DSLR "like" camera.

I bought mine OS but i think they retail for $500ish here.... its pretty good compromise between compact p/s and full DSLR....i think its 28-300mm zoom, and has adjustable aperature & shutter controls, can shoot in RAW, plus "live view" and video....it takes good pics for what it is. PM me if you want to know any more......

cheers, Alex.

that price is pretty good, take it, if not spend it on a slr like camera, probly one of the fuji film models

I'd buy that as a beginners camera. Just buy a telephoto (sigma 75-300) for $200 if you feel you want to take it further or if you want a zoom. It is a decent camera, as long as you arent doing any low light work, they have extremely bad ISO noise control!

Sorry to bring an old thread up.

Coming to the time when im going to purchase as the bday is coming up and ive payed rego.

Fisher
Balls. Don't get anything other than Nikon or Canon, it will drive you nuts getting accessories like lenses, flashes etc. 2nd hand or even new!
mrdoof
