what would be the point of locking the front diff?
89lodeo
so when im off road ill have 3 wheels driving instead of 2
and if i lock the back (perminatly) then its fucked for everyday driving
obrim
the Lokka is just a proper way of locking a diff.

Welding is dodgy.

its actually the other way round... if you lock the front you will get NO traction at all! when you turn your car will just make shit load of queeking noise and the car will just go straight, and you most likely will snap your CV joint after a couple day.

wouldnt wanna do that mate

yer welding is dodgy but its also garenteed never to break
the person i would get to do it has run 350hp through a diff he welded and it never broke 6k clutch dumps and she was solid as a rock
ok so u recon it will just end up costing me in the end and not a good idea?
im new to 4x4ing so keen to lear whats guna be expensive and whats guna be money well spent as the good old first year wage isnt that good these days
cheers

ud be better to lock the rear diff, at least it will still drive, it will be a number of days before the front just gos bang, how many people have lockers in the back and dont have many problems is huge, they just slide a bit and do good skids, id just leave it until ur more experienced 4x4 er then decide.. ill leave it at that

and also, it isnt hard 2 weld a diff and if it brakes u just re weld it its cheap and effective.

Welding, never breaking? laugh.gif what fantasy r u living in?

If you wana do it on the cheap, at least use a spool.

If done properly, you'll never break it. Just snap axels left, right and centre.

Agreed, for the price of a spool it isnt worth welding these days.

agreed. if you weld your front diff your an absolute tool( i could use other words, but i wont)
if anything, get a rear locker, or even a front air locker.
but if you have to weld, weld the rear not the front... your better off with drive from your rear wheels before your front.

off road, a locked/welded diff is the least of your problems.. on the road the hubs wil be free spining so it wont make a differnce.

I wouldnt do it, you will need to unlock a hub everytime you get to a corner on a track. Not good when coming down or going up a slippery track with a turn in it imo.

You will also increase the chance of breaking CVs. I have had a 4wd systems locker in the front of mine for 3+ yrs. $500 and 4 hrs to install, works great off road and doesnt promote damage. I could see why you would consider the rear but never the front. Turning is just as important off road as on wink.gif

Yes its a mechanical auto locker. Basically it will allow one wheel to drive faster than the other. So when going around a corner it unlocks. They give you a heavy return to centre feel but nothing that is a problem to deal with. Check out there website they have a heap of info there.

sweet
i was looking at the BBM auto locker but was wondering how it felt through the wheel

exactly a good welder will see parts break before the weld does thumbsup.gif

and yes i wouldnt advise welding the front diff,go spool, detroit locker or some other diff centre
anything but the dodgy weld job ohnoes.gif
