it's more driver skill than anything!

Just come down and compete, it's great fun and u learn great car skills!

The Rejex Rally is on Picnic Day weekend - 4 & 5 August. We leave Darwin at about 10am on Saturday morning - not sure where from, but probably from Mindil Beach because that's worked so well the last two years. We drive down to Hayes Creek or Douglas Daly on the Saturday, stopping at various WWII airstrips and doing motorkhanas. On the Sunday we use an airstrip just north of Hayes Creek before lunch, then another one just to the south, before driving onwards to Katherine (only goes to Katherine every second year, this year being a Katherine year).

For those that want to know, here are some factoids about the Rejex Rally:

1. The first Rejex Rally was held in 1955.

2. It is called the 'Rejex Rally' because the organisers of the famous Redex Trials decided they weren't coming to Darwin in 1955, so the Darwin people feeling rejected created their own rally instead, hence Rejex Rally.

3. The event was only run once or twice originally.

4. In 1995, a group of car fanatics decided to re-run the Rejex Rally to celebrate 40 years since the original event. Leo Izod, one of these fanatics, went on the original rally (with his father I think), and still had the car he went in - this vehicle has always run with the number '1' in the rally to commemorate this.

5. The re-running was so popular and fun that it has been done every year since, so 2007 will be the 42nd anniversary of the original, and the 12th event in a row. Not sure if it's the 13th or 14th event in total.

6. The record for most Rejex Rallies won in a row is held by Gary Pendlebury. Gary won the event in 2001 in a Mini, and in 2002, 2003 & 2004 in a VT HSV Clubsport. His wife Caroline won the 2000 event. Gary & Caroline also came second in 2005, but had car issues in 2006 preventing them from getting another excellent result.

7. The Rejex Rally has grown SIGNIFICANTLY in the last five-six years. In 2001 there were just under twenty vehicles entered in the event - in 2006 there were fifty!

8. There are two main competitions in the Rejex Rally: outright & handicap. The outright trophy is for whoever has the best average result over the whole event. 1st, 2nd & 3rd trophies are given for the persons with the best result out of the whole field, and 1st, 2nd & 3rd are given for class categories (based on year of vehicle production). The handicap trophy is based on a combination of outright result and a handicap based on the year of vehicle production and can include what modifications have been done to the vehicle.

9. There are many different trophy available in the Rejex Rally, not only based on results. These include best presented car, best female team, and others.

10. Any and all cars are welcome to enter, and the greater the diversity of vehicles, the better. Past entries have included 1920's Fords & Dodges, Skyline GT-R's, Minis, Commodores, Falcons, Mustangs, and custom built vehicles such as a Clubman and a 1930's Ford hotrod. More recent years have seen some amazing machinery entered, including such exotics as a Lotus Exige, Lamborghin Countach, and even a Toyota Starlet!!! (I had to throw it in somewhere tongue.gif)
paddles7
I'll definately be there in the gem again. Had an absolute ball last time, well worth the entry fee!!

Anyone comtemplating coming, it doesn't matter what car you have or how advanced (or otherwise) your driving prowess is. It's all about having fun!!

gemi power.
vh-holden
how many spaces are there?
ancullen
I don't think they've had to limit spaces - yet. However Graham (the organiser) is prepared to do it, because he realises that we can't have an infinite number of people attend. He has mentioned 60 as being a good number though.

I'll get in touch with him (I've gotta hand the perpetual trophy back in to have my name engraved on it) and find out when entry forms are going to be released.

Basically, pay the entry fee and all meals are accounted for.
Last year we all camped at Douglas Daly, except this year is at Katherine so I dunno how that will work.

All you need is:
A car,
A navigator (that does no real navigating, its just nice havign someone with you),
Spare tyres if you are particularly fond of sliding (I took 4 spares last year biggrin.gif )
The usual, hats, water, sunscreen etc etc

There are a couple of car trailers that come along so if you do break down you wont be left on the side of the road.

There's only a couple though, so obviously the number of Holdens entered in the rally is restricted so there's enough trailers to cover them. tongue.gif

from memory its around $250 per person, all meals included
Rusty_Celica
seems like i will have a car to drive in so ill come down for a watch... will they let me participate in motorkharna on quadbike??
ancullen
It's about $250 per car. That's entry for two people, lunch & dinner on the Saturday, and breakfast, lunch & dinner on the Sunday, as well as a Rejex polo shirt for each person. Each extra person costs about $120-130. That was last year's prices, so they may change this year, but probably not by much.
VLCT WALKY
what if both drivers want to compete ?
ancullen
Both the driver and the navigator are allowed to do a run. Previously when there were a lot less competitors we used to do three-four runs per course, but that's just not feasible anymore. Generally a second run is allowed (per driver), but we can't keep doing an indefinite number of runs. Devo and Gary generally get a few runs to get through all the people wanting rides in the passenger seat - at least there are some advantages to competing in a car no-one notices. tongue.gif

Andy and I both want to compete, but use the one car?

so we will be each other's navigators! as well.

ancullen
That won't be an issue, although I'm not sure if they'll count you as two drivers for the points count or just as one vehicle and use the best results from you or Andy.
VLCT WALKY
nar, i don't want the best result between each of us, so i guess we will both have to pay the money

we both want to beat u adam! so will just have to both entre!
ancullen
You should be able to speak to the main bloke and get both your names listed in the results (below mine tongue.gif ). You wouldn't have to pay entry twice for yourselves, just the $120 (or whatever it is) each.
Jenkins
This is for the motorkhana's or for the run down to katherine?
ancullen
Both.
Jenkins
Thnx man.

OK just to set the record straight the Rejex Rally this year is going to spend 2 nights at Hayes Creek.
We wont be traveling to Katherine this year so if you want time to book accomodation at Hayes Creek. thumbsup.gif

Graham must have abandoned the usual trip to Katherine every second year. Oh well, no big loss anyway. We still use the same airstrips anyway, we just don't have to worry about the extra distance to Katherine. I'll be checking my mailbox tonight, as entry forms were apparently posted Monday or Tuesday.
Megz
So are the dates known then???

Megz
So it is thanks Adam.
ancullen
Entry forms are now available. If you haven't got one and want one, PM me and I can send you a copy.
MY-91-GT
You still need an entry form if not competing?? Unsure on the timing if I'll be allowed to drive and stuff haha I'll know more closer to the dates or if I'm not working pretty farked up.

If I can get some stockies I'll compete if not I'll just be there for moral support and try and get some photo's as well smile.gif

Only if you want tickets to the presentation. If you don't submit an entry form, you can feel free to follow the rally, but you have to buy your own meals and stuff. Everyone has to pay for their own accomodation anyway, so you won't be missing out there.
