OK ...
This is now my ignition setup. I use the switches to control my ignition. The left hand switch is for my accesories...the same as the second click when ya turn ya key, the second switch controls my 'on' part...the third click when ya turn ya key. And the start button is what ya push to start it

. You still have put the key in and turn it for these switches to work (just for security, but at first I had it hooked up so you didnt need a key). The green light comes on when the key is in the ignition and the switches are ready for...wel switching. In the picture My acc is working, but my 'on' is not. Just wondering if this is/how illegal. Its easy to ut back to normal, but yeah just wundren. And before you ask my why I did it in the first place, it';s cuz i was bored and i thought it was pretty cool so ner.
Cheers,
James

as long as the key has to be on first ( to unlock the steering) it should be legal

can i ask why bother if you still need to use the key??? Switches are often used on race veicles as they are cheeper and teft is not an issue.

You sure the switches can handle the load?
Ahm accessories can be switched without the key, but as dave said, you need the key for ignition and steering lock for legality.
I'm still concerned about the switches, they look pretty low rating (eg: 10A?) from that little 120x100 picture you put up

Can i ask you to read my original post and notice that I said there was no need to ask why i would do it, as I have already stated it in the post? I just liked the look of it, and plus I can still have my engine running without having the accesories on, like wen i get tired of the music I just flick it off.
Red Krawler - They are 20 amp switches. I was concerned about that as well, but they arent getting hot at all, so hopefully they not doing anything above their rating

. as for the size its so ppl with dial-up didnt have to wait 50 years

turn the indicators on, wipers and blower fan and you have eaisily cleared 20a on the ignition curcuit. Add your efi system and a few other bits and pieces and you will easiliy hit 40-50amps. These switchs are a problem waiting to happen and they also look like the cheap and nasty ones.

another thing - does you car have a start relay? if not then you start button wont last long

If they do fuck out you can always run a contactor/relay? 12v and 50amp suckers are cheap and retively small. Probably a relay is better than a contactor as viabration tends to affect contactors more than relays (yet relays burn out quicker in a static environment... What a mix of tough and weak)
But yeah, switches are cool

Everyone loves switches.
Interesting bit of trivia... In damn near every car, all accesories are fed from one "loom" that runs along the dash which has a plug near the fuse box (normally) that can be unplugged and about 50 wires pull out together. Dunno why thats interesting, but I thought it was. Made it hell easy to remove my dash

Most people dont have it all going at once, a fact car manufacturers count on. They use 20A (iirc) cable everywhere for main feeds (and something like 5A cable from there?)...
Anyway, I like switches. I've got my battery in the boot right next to my surge tank, two external pumps and stereo (amp + speakers).... I'm an explosion just waiting to happen.

Where can i get still relatively cheap and un-nasty ones from ?
As for relays and wat not, I will prolly consider that. Better to be safe than sorry. Prevention is better than cure aye

cheep switches and quality are two words that dont go together.. If you really want to do this but i wouls suggest not, then get your self good quality switches and relays for the job.
If your from the gold coast than i can supply you with the right stuff otherwise go see an auto elec. Most autobarns and the like carry shit switchs and relays

Seems like a lot of effort just to start the car! |
Hehe tru, but it was just for novelty. Plus it only took me bout 10 minutes to hook it up, not including drilling the holes for the switches and wateva but. I've since crashed my car n e way, so I have a gazelle going cheap
