John.
Well, Basically my net has been shxt lately, Not slow, Just sometime decides to drop out, Always shows up with errors on the websites server, Etc.

I ran a Virus scan, which = nothing.

Then I went into run>cmd. then typed netstat -n. Which showed a MASSIVE list of I.P's This used to be only 3-4 I.Ps now theres heaps.

My question is, How do I find out whats using them. And would this most likely be my problem ? If so, Can i stop them ?

Thanks in advance.

Should of posted this is I.T, But anyway, Need some more info,

What ISP are you with, What is your connection (adsl/cable) and what speed adsl if you have it, What routers or modems are you using, Is it wireless? Are the I.P address's Local IP's or internet IP's.
John.
ISP: TPG. Ive had it for about 5 months, Its been fine up until now.
Conn: ADSL
Speed: 8000kb/s (supposedly, Zdnet test said its 1750kb/s)
Modem: Netcomm NB5 ADSL2+
Not wireless. How do I find out the last two ?

**Also Could A mod please move this to the correct section!

Is your adsl plan 1500/256 or what. To tell the difference about the last 2, A Local IP is ssomething like 192.168.0.1 and an internet ip is like 203.40.323.03, I just did a netstat scan of my own and they are all internet ip's, But i really dont think it has anything to do with it going slow/ dropping out, What it could be is the exchange your on, I know TPG are doing alot of rollovers to ADSL2+ at the moment, My internet was doing the same for a about a week now its all good. Have you tried calling TPG, They are hard to talk to but they could sus it out, Give em a ring tomorrow and they might sort something out, Otherwise you could try factory resetting the modem and re entering your settings, Which is probly what TPG will get you to do anyway. Seems to be all ISP's soloution to everything. Or i could be absoloutly wrong, So someone that knows a little more could correct me thumbsup.gif

I'm not sure about the various IP's in your netstat, but i work for an ISP doing this sorta shit

Reason for the dropouts could be a whole range of stuff, do you have access to your DSL logs to show connection times/durations/etc. Might be an indication whether its your modem losing the connection to the exchange/isp or the pc losing the connection to the modem.

In most cases when it comes to dropout trouble shooting its something to do with the PC itself, well thats what i've come across. Have you tried restarting in safemode with networking (Hit F8 straight away on boot screen and select) this disables most 3rd party programs etc from running in the background, things like firewalls/antivirus/spam etc. If its working fine when in safe mode (try another netstat or browse the web, download a test file etc) then its probably some program running in the background causing grief

Could also be a hardware issue, have you tried another phone cable, hard reset modem, another phone socket if possible. Are all the phones in your house filtered, this includes faxes/answering machines/foxtel or optus digital/alarm systems.

I had a similar issue not long ago with my own DSL, i'm on optus 1500k and i was getting terrible speeds, insane packet loss and dropouts, after hard resetting and all the usual stuff, turned out to be a sus phone lead between my modem and phone socket,
