try.. whirlpool.net.au u can search all the different plans available in your area (ie. select speed, cost, etc..) plus there is heaps of feedback from other users.
MookieMadskillz
bigpond has been good so far and they have plenty of support
PANDA
DO NOT Get Netspace they are not good and i mean really not good, as in bad technical support for tasmania is non existent basically thy dont have the data bandwidth out of tassie so u end up with dial up speeds most of the time but for broadband price sad.gif

dont go unlimited witha smaller company cos they normally go broke, and bigpond isnt unlimited at full speed(and they cost waaaaaaaaaay too much) there is a 10gb(talk of going upto 12gb)cap then u get capped back to 64k

Vote 1 Internode for speed and support dload quota's arent too bad either, out of the 8 isps ive been with internode is definitly the best for me so far, if u goto whirlpool tho u will most likely find that out anyway

I was on internode 8mbit for a while but have gone back to 1.5
DarkAgent
westnet 1.5mb 4tw
StreetSleeper
What was so bad about 8mbit? or were u just chewing through it too fast?
PANDA
hmm well it was kinda good. good points were u could dload at 400ks a sec and still play games with a 40 ping. its hard to max a 8mbit connection out but latency was increased by 10-15 even when not dloading so that was a lil annoying. mainly i dropped back cos i wanted to save the extra $20. also it depends on how teh line is cos nobody gaurantees 8mbit its listed as 1500-8000 cos the further away u are the slower it will be i was on 7165 9sometimes varied)which isnt bad, but a few people weer only getting 200k max dload speeds when i could max it out sometimes(from the internode server ) at 704k. its telstra issue it cant be helped
ronald_r32
im with dodo, 1.5Mb 30Gb limit, $69 a month and i am yet to have a problem with it. if you go over the limit it is capped at $129 so thats the max you ever pay

Bigpond....

I have to say that... its my job dry.gif
PANDA
hahahaha yeh but deep down it hurts doesnt it

Westnet FTW!

OK, my completely independant and unbiased view is go with Internode.

I've got Exetel at home, it is fantastic for what I do, d/l-ing, bit of surfing, but their tech support is non-existant. If you have problems you sort it out yourself.

My work has business ADSL through Netspace. It is fine. We never have speed issues despite litterally hundreds of people telling me we will.

A good friend is on aaNet 8mbit and is stoked. They are quite eager to please.

My old work was through Bigpond. They were expensive, unreliable and very hard to deal with. Never again, there are much much better options.

I've just signed out new Devonport office up with Internode. I've been dealing with them on teh phone the last week and they have absolutely FANTASTIC customer service! Their plans are reasonably priced also.

Basically, everyone, for one reason or another, is pulling out of Tasmania, hence shitty speeds with most providers. Telstra, OptusNet and Internode will remain. These 3 own their own hardware. Telstra has the best hardware (obviously), Optus uses Telsras old hardware so is always playing catch up, but Internode owns their own which is nearly as good as Telstra.

The fact Internode has invested in installing their own hardware in this state says they'll be here a while. They are cheaper than Telstra, more reliable than OptusNet. Can't go wrong.

By the way, you don't need anything more than 512/128. This is about 12 times faster than the dialup your using now, you'll love it. Also, steer clear of long contracts. 12 months is a maximum. Preferably 6-months. Plans are getting cheaper all the time so you don't want to be stuck paying huge amounts.

Something like the HOME-512-STARTER (http://www.internode.on.net/adsl/pricing/home.php) would be my recommendation.

I use iPrimus, it was better, but its still okay. I don't pay for it myself so I can't complain!
PANDA
the owner of internode even comes onto the whirlpool forum to help out and explain things to us when we have questions NOW thats technical support. netspace on teh other hadn if u mention any issues in tassie/vic about speed tech goes quiet, they arent allowed to comment on those problems(which allastarted when everyone jumped off telstra onto them lol cos they had big dload quota's, i fell for that one sad.gif i paid for 1500/256 and got dialup speeds for 6 months )
TUX-247
512/128 is sh*thouse for me, two puters hooked up and flatmate thinks he will get kicked off azureus if he doesnt uploiad as much as he downloads so i have no net speed at all..but we gettin 8mbit off westnet for nothing for being a dealer so all good..just im impatient cos i wanna download again...
MookieMadskillz
what are the prices for unlimited
we have 3 comps and quite often we all download at the same time
PANDA
depends on what u want dude but if u got 3 pcs dloadin id suggest 8mbit cos of the interleaving. Internode is cheaper than westnet as well but these seem the 2 most popular internode or westnet dont charge for uploads where as telstra do. Internode doesnt have off and on peak bullshit just straight up what u see is what u get (thats where netspace was bullshit! it seemed 24hrs a day i was on peak!!assholes)
Also there is no gaurantee that u can get 8mbit thats whay internode lists it as 1500-8mbit it all depends on distance from the exchange and more importantly line quality and amount of noise.

i use internode 8mb plan, can get 300kb/s max download speed.
PANDA
have u tried http://www.speedguide.net/files/TCPOptimizer.exe

when i got 8mbit fastest dload i got was 300k but windows was throttling my ports i turned it up to 8mbit with tcp optimizer and it was stable @ 702k a sec but like i mentioned before it depends on line quality etc
