it depends on what kind of lifestyle you're after.
Auckland is fairly busy. plenty to do in terms of recreation. pretty good car scene. property is very expensive though (depending on area).
it has a fantastic night life, and good earning opportunities if youre in the right line of work.

Hamilton is my home town, an hour and a bit south of auckland, it has some nice rural area around it, the town itself isn't that great in terms of things to do, but it's getting better over time. the car scene is surprisingly big, and very concentrated on weekends to the main drag out of town. it's about 1km of modified cars parked up with people hanging out drinking, the occasional skid and usually a diesel drop around the roundabout (every monday without fail you can see the remnants of sand around it where the diesel has gone down, and the council was called out to clean it up) as well as drag trains up to the meremere drag strip occasionally.
property prices are steadily increasing as the desirability of the town as a place to live goes up. we have the v8 supercars here soon too.

Wellington is like the big city auckland tries so hard to be.
it has a lot of beauty in architecture and there are plenty of things to do.
it has a good friendly feel about it, and property is of verying expense, depending where you want to move to.
the main negative is that it is so damn windy and can get pretty damn cold sometimes.

Christchurch is pretty much the largest city in the south island. i suggest it has either the biggest, or the most insane car scene in NZ. if only for the amount of times i see hoon related events pop up from down there.
i havnt been there often, but they get snow occasionally. and it's a really nice town.

another one to look into is taupo, which is just a beautiful place to visit, probably even nicer to live. but property is likely to be costly.

google some of the places i've mentioned for more indepth and accurate descriptions of the towns.

QUEENSTOWN lived there for yeah best place little get to no everyone nice as people biggrin.gif

chch is the place to be..
lived there for 10 years!

Hamilton is ok, I used to like going to Hamilton, but it's dank most of the time. Taupo is cool - but a little too small and seasonally touristy for my liking. If I went back to NZ I could live in Wellington - as said before, it can get cold and windy though. I grew up in Hawkes Bay and could see myself living there again, the climate is one of the best in NZ.

grew up in aucks, its the shit but too cold,

i Visited Christchurch Last year!

i thought it was insane the amount of modded cars we're just cruising around, Definatly worth a look!

I live out in the country south of Auckland, nice place, miles from the hustle of crappy Auckland.
Champion Dragway (Meremere) is 30min from my gate
Lakeside International Dragway (Taupo) is a 4hr trip
Masterton Motorplex is about a 6hr trip
Christchurch's car scene is a mess; too many young dickheads stirring trouble.
Hamilton is ok but the boyracer scene is getting similar to Auckland... a bunch of losers tipping diesel on the road so their underpowered POS can get a wheel going.
If you have anything of value i'd stay clear of south auckland's Manukau, Manurewa, Papakura etc.
Head for a rural area & you'll be sweet. With our relaxed car laws pretty much anything goes as long as it's built safely.
DATS IT

It's interesting to hear what you're all saying about CH-CH, because it's all so true. The whole south island is a bit mad about cars whether it be imports, vintage muscle etc. It's because it's too cold to socialize outside, so cars are where it's at.
ratta tat tat
There's also some great roads on the outskirts of town, the top way over to lyttleton,,? can't remember the road, but it'steep and winding with a lookout up the top,
