OK...

I watched a mate of mine in action yesterday doing a model shoot in a warehouse and noticed some of his gear he was using. It was like he had a mini studio...

I generally do my shoots of models are car shows or outside. Now im wanting to get into the studio feel for a few...

What gear should i get? What does what? This is something i have no clue about. So weblinks and advice would be handy

Thanks

mmm, mattson would be the person to talk to, or Ronza, i would say at least two flashes, either been speedlites(wireless biggrin.gif ) or strobe flashes, umbrella reflectors, obviously a background easily bought off ebay with all essentials, lightmetre, thats all i can think of...

You can also buy these "setup" from camera shops. i seen one the other day when i brought my monopod, included a background, 3 lights and stands for $699.

You can probably make it with bits and pieces from Bunnings, but that takes time and effort.

You want to light up an entire car or just people here?

I sell some gear; http://envisageit.net/ and follow through to the eBay store. Includes a full studio package which is more aimed at people.

Less "studio" but more about lighting; http://strobist.com/ - alot of information there if you choose to go flash gun route. The blog shows *alot* of what you can do with simple manual flashes.

How much are you wanting to spend? Camera gear isn't cheap and what you pay reflects the sort of images that you will receive.. However in saying that, you don't have to go all out and spend lots of money to achieve the affect that you want..

ebay search = studio set up.

I bought a whole studio setup for $100 something.

Including one light trigger flash, one remote flash, two light stands, one white umbrella, one silver umbrella, one light box, one barn door thingy with 4 different colours, um i think that was all.

Look into it

Don't suppose there is any chance that you can remember who thru ebay - you must have got the best deal. Trying to find something like that but nothing comes as well priced as that so far.

I've brought some floodlights (X2 500watt) from Bunnings for $30... they came with a 2m tripod stand. When I move to my new house I'm going to try and set up a studio in the garage and see how I go with them. You can also get fireproof colour correction film to place over the lights.
Lance
So you got the 2 lights and stands for $30? How many lights would you need all up? 2x for background, 1 for fill? hmm.
Rainey
Well it was x2 500watt floods mounted on the one stand, like a T bar at the top. I think you would only need one of these and perhaps another light for fill. I'm sure it would come well under $80 all up!

You can see them in this shot, over in the background:

And this was the effect:

It isn't the most polished example but the lights are incredibly powerful. Remembering that the Exige is very dark anyway.
