Bought the hilux like this around 1 month ago doing 15 second quarters with holden 253 V8 in her and have just about got her up for roadworthy[attachmentid=271036].
Have spent alot of extra cash and hours on her so far.
She now sits in primer with no bonnet scoop and have 4x4 tub to go on the back of her. Have purchased new bonnet,taiklgate,door and just require Rh guard to finish off and abit of rust repair on the new tub.
The spacer plate has been taken off of the carb to get it sitting under the hood and have rekitted 45o holley to put on as 650 on her is to big have also bought new HEI electronic dissy n leads a Pete jackson gear drive, torker manafold, set of b-cast Brock headers that go over the top of chasis in behind the front wheels and out to set of duals,new chrome edelbrock air cleaner breathers and tappet covers, a b&m shifter is also sitting in the garage waiting to go on the trimatic Havent got cam yet as need to get L34 heads and all parts on before choose lobe to go with. Am hoping for 13's if it does not get there then will be looking at superchargers or vn heads and harrop manafold or chuck a 308 but then not sure if 308 still legal
Bought personalised number plates 14MYL Quarter Mile
Inside now consists of autometer monster tacho and 2x 10" subs and cd + amp to get it rollin.
Am going with rat rod approach so bottom of car going will be painted matt black into white pinstripe that opens up to flame job on tub and then will go into gloss red with red candy flake on top.
To keep with rat theme I have purchased a set of 15" chasers which have a set of moon caps on them and am getting portawall 3" white walls all round and having exhaust kicked out to the sides of tub.
Just looking for a chrome front end for her at the moment and set of tramp rods (slapper bars)
Once roadwrthy is done I will fit all the new goodies that I have for her and post up some pics and times.

to keep it legal I have to keep to the same age motor (1988) so its a carby setup have also bought front chrome bar so slowly getting there

[attachmentid=298683][attachmentid=298681][attachmentid=298682]sold the 4x2 tub so am now putting the 4x4 tub on the back just finished cutting, welding, glassing and sound deadening the floor pan now just have to sand back the sides and put in primer and I can move onto the rest of the body. Have tossed up whether to shave and cap it but want to keep it rod style so think i will just shave the hooks and headboard and leave the rest.

Out of curiosity... And, i'm assauming you're in Qld, i didn't think you could go any bigger than a 253, legally?

Yes I have heard the same but when i rang up qld transport they said could be done but would need another mod plate but if put a different 253 in her it would be sweet but when I look at the mod plate and certificate all it says is mod plate for holden V8 motor and trimatic gearbox so it might already be sweet as does not say 253 or 308 so not sure how they would know what 1.It might be that they read the engine numbers and do some homework and find out what was originally in there , but there is ways around that probably . Anyone looking for 253 without block as have 1 for sale
I might be getting a drive car for work soon, if so there will be nothing legal about it as will probably put blower on with shotgun air scoop. Am thinking about putting the shotgun air scoop on regardless

i thought u can put a new motor in a older car like said about a injected 8. iv heard and even seen a lod luk with a jected 8 ? as long as its newer then the modle car u have. so 88 u could get a 89 90 an so on motor an shove it in?

every1 says a different thing all I know is that when I rang trasport department they told me that i had to keep to the same specs and if I was shove a different motor other than 253 that i would need a new mod plate, But the mod plate only says that it is modified to suit holden v8 and trimatic so fuxme injected would be good though

As long as the motor is the same year or later and no greater than 5.0L you can legally fit it in QLD. If the motor is earlier than the car then the emissions need to meet the year the car was made. In regards to the mod plate as long as you update the engine number with the department of transport, you will be fine. They will want to confirm the number but thats it.

dont know where u are located but the 308 wont be legal in qld, it cant bigger than a 4.3L due to qld regulations but it will be legal in nsw. u can drop a newer motor in that law is bullshit i checked into it when i did my conversion. definitely get vn dave bennet heads and u will see the power difference, they are about 2500 bux with all valves etc but u will be running 12's.

well i Hate to admit it but I chickened out was going to shave numbers of 308 but after talking to a friend that works for transport department he said that they will still be able to tell if I have to run it over the pits, Which will probably be a monthly thing in QLD so am going to get a new 253. sticking with the 253 as already mod plated for a 253 and trimatic gear box. Fitted the 4x4 tub today and cut off the ladder bars, took it for a spin. Dam I love the sound of it.

yes i am thinking of capping it but dont wont shave the petrol flap or doors as dont want to come unstuck on the strip and have marshall not knowing how to get into it if need be. hope it doesnt happen but yes i want to make it different and having door handels is becomning different as everyone shaving now lol...if someone got a roll pan for this model I would be keen to purchase

no offence but you seem to be going backwards from the first pic...

no offence taken but sometimes you do have to go backwards before you can go forwards. The grill and bar in the first pic did not fit right and stuck out past the wheel arches ( looked good and different but just didnt fit right) and the paint job was asking for trouble with the cops. Needed to put the 4x4 tub on to get some wider tyres under the rear , kept the bonnet scoop incase i want to go that path later on but have got the shotgun airscoop coming from america. It will look good hopefully when it is done, it is a project and not a daily driver so not really worried what it looks like until it is completed this thing is far from finished
