I know the prior thead just got locked but bare with me for a second please.
I'm NOT going to promise anything, BUT......
depending on levels of interest I may have a spot for us on the Gold Coast located back of Southport.
It's not huge, 20-30 vehicles would probably be all that would fit, any more and parking would be on the public road. (maybe could be 50ish depending on when and how it was run)
It's in an industrial estate, so no noise issues.
It IS private property and under my control so no one can tell us to bugger off.
Like I said, I'm not going to promise anything long term, but I would be willing to give it a try for a month or two, one or two nights a week, just to see if the idea might work out.
There are running costs involved so minor donations (gold coin) may be required, but trust me when I say there would be benifits and value for money.
I don't want to start a flame war here.
Please keep all replies very specifically on topic.

I'm curious how a car park can have "running costs?"
Are you planning on setting up 50x spot lights or something
Just a heads up, it only takes one person to do something stupid and it's game over whether it's public property or private property.

Sell some cans of drink and have a bbq mate, you'll make a bit of money for yourself, or even donate to a charity to make us "hoons" look good to the public, shed some positivity on the enthusiast community.

Not just a carpark... Like I mentioned, this is private property and my liability insurance alone is over $3000 a year, and there are other expenses, yes electricity, rubbish collection, cleaning, accidental damages etc. all minor things that do add up. If it get's used 1% of the week (ie. 2hrs) that's $30 on insurance that I'm paying for everyone to have a good time.
I will cover the costs, but if it gets a lot of use small donations (a buck or 2) will help keep it feasible and be greatly appreciated.
R.
ps. BBQ idea is great, (there is one there and other entertainmetn available too).....
perhaps could do a once a month BBQ for everyone or similar.
Great suggestion, keep 'em coming.

Thanks for clearing it up

I was under the impression it was just a car park. That's the way it came across and was interested as to why costs were involved.

I agree with newlyawaken.
Its a good idea in theory but as it gains populartiy more and more people will come with less and less care for the area.
Someone will do something stupid and it will get shut down or a defect station will be set up outside hte carpark............
As said previously, good idea in concept.
Best of luck tho.

sounds good but what sort of benefits?
mate, good luck with it, i would be in for that for sure.... being that i originally started the old thread, ive kinda got a been there done that mindset, but i didn't have a facility like you do, if you would like someone to help organise & assist in running the joint, i would be more than happy to help out. I agree that it could be of benefit if the donation required was more than was necessary and the profits go to charity, ie $3 instead of $2 or something similar. hit me up on msn if you would like to.

Hmmm, i'm confused though. Is this meant to be a regular meeting spot? I.e. every week for x amount of people?
How are you going to enforce people to pay? Pay at the gate or something?
I'm not trying to sound like a wet towel, but i can think of other situations where people were meant to make donations and simply haven't leaving it to others to cover the costs.
And donations to charity i think would be best left to a individual and just charge people (if this is the case) the strict costs of having the venue available.

Dec 14 2006, 12:00 PM
whoa...
I am hoping so see if there was enough interest first before I spill the surprise bit, but it doesn't look like people can last that long on speculation alone.
To clarify the idea a little.
This is a meeting spot for anyone and everyone to arrive and stay, talk, look, play pool, have a bbq watch DVDs, arrange where the cruise next heads etc. This is NOT a house, it's a fully equiped engineering workshop with club room, pool table, car hoists, dyno etc.
It is 'hoped' that regulars using the place for extended time will be willing on their own accord to make $1-$2 contributions.
I'm NOT going to walk around with a bucket and list, checking people have paid up. hopefully an honesty system will work well enough.(dreaming) Eventually it may turn in to a membership thing, how knows?
One of the benifits for people willing to make donations is use of the workshop during these meets for working on their vehicles if they like.
Being fair to ask that any serious use of the machinery/tools may be a little more to use. This to be discussed further though.

This is a good idea, but sadly due to commodore drivers, i dont think it would last long. I do however like your ideas of "workshop meet", "dyno meets" and "Pool Playing meets".
I'd be very interested in setting up a "Monday Night Madness" Cruise to your workshop to allow people to be able to use your dyno, pool tables.(for a price of course) When i get a chance ill send you a PM in regard to the use of your workshop for such an event.

There's already a meet on at the workshop for ppl to get to know Aiko and the staff. See the thread
http://www.boostcruising.com/forums/index....howtopic=177863 and make sure you get in early if you want a dyno run.
There isn't really time to organise anything else this year but I'm sure he'll/we'll organise something early next year.
If there are any cruises passing through in the near future drop Aiko a line and I'm sure he'll be more then happy to let you make a stop.

As for you, mate why when someone comes up with a good idea someone has to say "someone will fuck is up for you" or "the cops will shut it down". We all know it MIGHT happen but i hope it doesn't. Once you say something like that and it does get screwed up for everyone, cockheads like you go round saying "i told you so".

BVC Bullet I'm sure he's just a realist.
It's a great idea, and if there were no idiots in this world it'd work fine. An honesty system will not work if you have a shed full of tools and equipment and pool tables etc.
If I were you Aiko, I'd give it some definition, only allow members to be inside using the equipment and pool tables etc, that way you can make them sign in or out when they come. You need some kind of confirmation because sooner or later with a shed full of goodies they're going to disappear if you are not there 24/7.
You could even consider purchasing pool tables for outside, put them undercover along with your bbq area, is this area lockable? And leave it as a 1 or 2 dollar per game table, this could be part of your cash flow for maintaining the area.
Like I said though, great idea, I just don't think it will run smoothly unless your strict and keep numbers down. People will show up doing burnouts because they think its a safe haven, will get ruined for the people that are genuine. etc etc.
All the best.

ok, so here's basically the way I see things happening. (at this stage)
As a general hang out, it'll be free with donations greatly appreciated.
Access to the workshop ie. tools and other facilities, will be at some nominal fee, perhaps membership or registration based. Everyone knows tools aren't cheap and don't last forever. (to be discussed further later)
At this stage there will be no alcohol, unless your car runs methanol.
Thanks Ang, I see you remember her, yep, Aiko is a most effective bouncer. For most of you who haven't met her yet, Aiko is a very large watch dog with sharp teeth and the understanding that she is #1 in the food chain. (see my avatar, no one was game to call shotgun that night)

Hehehe...
I have to agree with Matt - it's all well and good saying "omgz I have a place to hang out letz do it" and not bother to consider the other side of it. It's how organising events and venues such as this do so successfully, by looking at the negatives and the problems that could arise, and figuring out ways around them.
Having said that, don't take it like I mean your suggestion Aiko, I just mean in general by others. I think it sounds like a good idea, and provided there is a way to keep some accountability it could work really well. Excellent way to build some good business/client relationships as well.
Tempting me to consider making the trip down for your welcome day on the 30th and throw the car on the rollers for a readout
