Big toss up this week, such great images in it.
I voted for Major, I live that image, it just works and the B&W is great. I really like Tyler's, very cool image, very creative; love the lines in Ghetto's, very eye catching; Rainey's is almost perfect, the signs on the beach are the only thing I would change, it is such a good image, the ISO 800 makes it a bit unclear and lack sharpness though; Twist's although not original is a very good image, very well executed and nice result.
I'm still not sure who's I like best... Oh well, it's done now.

My vote goes to Rainey this week, I think that shot is something you would see in a motoring magazine and all-round is a great shot

Hehe, yes you did. That's not to say the last picture isnt the best one there. I think the voting system should be revised as anyone could go away and register 30 new members and vote for themselves or they could get everyone they know on Boost to go and vote for them.
I think it would be better to just go back to the single pick winner... Like Mattson picks one, and that's it. It's a nicer surprise that way instead of already having a vague idea of who is going to win.

yep, then everyone whinges they have no choice... there's no win win situation

we should probably just stop sooking, and just back up what Mattson beleives is best. If we don't like it.... stiff.
This is no offence to the winner photo's, as they have all been well deserved, but in each of the last 3 weeks, there has been 20+ votes come out of nowhere and vote for one photo, with no explination as to why. Its always been for different people so im not pointing the blame, it just seems suss.
BUt for this weeks comp,
1: Nice colours and lines and composition, really keeps your eyes moving around the frame
2: B/W really suits this picture and type of picture, but i am not sure if i like the huge shadow on his face
3: Flower shots never really do it for me, and this seems to be the same flower as was put in last weeks POTW. Really nice DoF tho
4: I really like this shot, a really good clean car, in a location you wouldn't normally see one in. The lighting really seems to suit the scene as well.
5: I don't know what to say about this one, its not really my type of photo, but the colors are nicely done, however i do find the background noise a bit distracting.

That is what puzzles me, 20+ votes for the same image between 12:30am to 9:00am EST without a single explanation or opinion to credit the decision. I'm not meaning to sound like a complainer but I just want the mods here to be aware of what is happening if they don't already see it.

I am a mod, and I do see it, boostcruising has a strict policy about duplicate accounts, and if you suspect someone of dupliplicity then report them.
I don't find it sus that it's happening... usually when a post is new it's when people get too it quickly... they vote and that's it.
I can't make the voting only to people in the photography section as boost is all about sharing

and generally with all polls here, if i see a poll, i vote in it... maybe others do the same... with over 30k of members, it's not suprising that there would be a quick influx of votes and then not at all...

It probably is the same flower only not so opened up

I like doing Macro shots, hence the flowers and I also think that I have better photos then that
Tyler has pretty much blitzed the field this week, so congrats to him

it is very strange cause like above i looked at the poll quickly last night and it was all very close and i come back quickly this morning to have a look before school and it had jumped crazy.
im like mattson i find myself voting in most polls, i can say now i couldn't care less if i win or lose, its all just a bit of fun amongst us all. if someone actually went to the effort of making that mnay accounts to win they need to get a life.
i like ghetto's image the best. it uses the basics of composition so well, its almost perfect in my eyes

Exactly mate, personally I think your image is pretty stunning and wouldn't be surprised to see it win under completely fair circumstances, but like you I just find it hard to believe the agressive jump in votes (for the same image) from midnight last night till early morning is legitimate. I think someone is getting a kick out of it, somewhere.
I am a fan of Major's portrait, but like Moment said, the harsh shadow is detriment to the quality that could have been achieved there. Even still, I couldn't have done better myself.

I really couldn't decide on this week and thus didn't vote.
Each photo has some amazing quality which draws me to it and I could not fairly make a decision.
1 - In its simplicity and solid lines it captures your attention and draws it to that singular point, slightly off centre. I have no idea what it exactly is which is probably why it is my least favourite pic but it captures the attention and is well composed.
2 - The only criticism is that as was said the shadowing was a tad harsh. However it cpatures the subject perfectly and converys strong emotions. All together it is a well thought out shot.
3 - The flower sho tis really great and the contrast in colours is rather eye catching. However I would have focussed more towards the centre of the flower. However that is just me and it would really depend on what is pleasing on the eye for everyone else.
4- I think is a tad dark on the right hand side of the car for me personally. But the background is fantastic and the overcast conditions suit the picture very well. I have considered that the signs might take away from the picture but I also think it might lack something with out them. Really not 100% sure.
5 - Is a great photo and possibly coolest in an Art retro sort of way. However the background noise is a tad distracting and takes away from what is otherwise a really great photo.

1. Not particularly interesting subject matter but who cares. Its a nice shot. Quite interesting, nice colours and very artistic. My pick.
2. Not bad. I like the shot, but portraiture pics dont really appeal to me. So you didnt get my vote, unfortunately.
3. Nice colours, but it seems a bit blurry for my liking. That fat border and watermark annoys me.
4. Nice car, thats about it. Background is too confusing, boring to look at and the colours seem washed out and generally looks like it was taken with a disposable camera. I wouldnt want this in a magazine.
5. Dont particularly like it. Looks manipulated - dont know if it is though. I like the idea I guess, and the fact youve captured the water, but overall no. Thumbs down fo me. Ibid for watermark and border.
That is all. Cheers.

Of course it does!!! Petty name calling achieves nothing!
I voted for DJ Brad K. btw. I personally just think its a well composed and executed shot and the colour is a nice touch instead of using just water.
Raineys is great because its really clear and the lighting is great, but i just think a sexy car like that should be somewhere that suits it more than a calm beach to really give it prime sexyness

The portrait shot is fab aswell. The lighting really compliments the subject and it has a lot of personality. The vote was very nearly going to go to this one, but i think I chose T.K because it was more striking because of the colour... If I could vote for both I would... (maybe i should set up 20 accounts and set up my own cheating system

I agree not that many people would suddenly vote, and all for the same shot!!!)
Twists is another great shot but I voted for him last week... and its almost exactly the same this week...
The first one is great because of the lines and composition which makes it overall one of my fave shots aesthetically, but I think the skill factor there was significantly lower than some of the other shots this week...

I like Ghetto Panda's shot. Aesthetically, the composition and lines appeal to me alot, as with much similar architectural/industrial type photography. Skillset, or whether or not a photo was difficult to execute, really shouldn't matter

I voted for DJ, as i love the colour and that it is interesting to look at.
Now you all cant say i voted for my photo last week. Pure and simple is that as soon as people see a POLL you vote in it.
(1) is you just like to.
(2) is that you are interested to see how is wining.
(3) and to see how many other people see the same way as you do on this topic.

You're right. It shouldn't matter but its something that I usually take into account. Especially because when you have to choose between photos which look equally great, but one was done with absolutley no effort and happened to be in the right place at the right time, and the other has had time and effort put in to set it up perfdectly, i believe they should get the extra bit of credit because the achieved what they set out to do...
And congrats to DJ Brad...
