Almost the same as post your ride but you post pics and tell us about it but WHY did you chose that car and what made that the special one. thumbsup.gif

Well after owning a few crappers ive alway been a Nissan kid since my family had all nissans starting off on the 180B and moving up onto the RB30 skylines, So my first car was a BlueBird then 3 more after the first and the list goes on.

My current car as most of you guys and gals know its a magna 2002 V6, the reason i sold my r31 Silhouette cause i almost lost it due to little hot fingers.

I started working at Budget rent a car and drove the same model car to launcestion and i was very happy with the way it performed and Handled for a family car, I wa in the market of looking for a family car and tried out many car including the falcon (AU II / III) and VX commodore but found the magna to be better on the road and gave better feeling of security while driving at highway speed + they cruise really well at NON Road posted speed limits. Now why i chose that car more than a Manual Commie or falcon i felt that the commie was a BIG slug had the go to 100 - 120 but then on the road it was sluggish and didnt handle as good as the front driver, Falcon well i drove 3 and they all had the same dirty old taxi feel to light no feed back on the steering wheel and to flighty on the road which felt the chassis was not up to the motor charctor.

So i decided to Buy the 2002 TJ II 3.5 V6 155 Kw magna cause it stood out not buy performance but road handling and fuel economy, Compared the 3 if i didnt get a good deal with the magna i would of got a Maxima for almost the same reason as the magna... Put in a stright line it may fall behind at the start but once 200 comes the magna will keep going and give it a twisty road and it will outrun the comp.

Cheers Brett,

So what made you get the modle car thumbsup.gif

Nyssa
Well i have been in to Rallying since i can remember and i ended up picking the Subaru as THE car. Dont really know why i just had a thing for them and so thats what i brought and thats all i think i will even own. Never found any other brand of car that i have felt the same way about. I suppose its like a GF or BF you know they are right for you and sometime you cant actually say i know they are right because..You just get the feeling. I got the model i have cause i like the look of the classics and this car was in pritty good condition and was well priced. The performance really didnt bother me, i just love the way they handle and drive.
alphabetic
Because it’s cheap. A to B. Something a uni tosser like me doesn’t have to worry about. Hell I don’t even wash the bastard.. ok sometimes I do. I could have bought a more 'credible' car for roughly the same price, but I didn’t. And the wowsers who think this makes me less of a car enthusiast can get screwed laugh.gif The particular marque/models I've idolised since I was younger (or others I'm fond of) were never attainable on my budget anyway. And loans suck. I’d tell you what I plan on getting in future & why, but no one likes a wanna/gonna.
`Nova
because ever since i remember all i wanted to do was drive one of these and then when i found out the ghia's ltd's and fairlanes had digital dashes, i had to have one all the more.. now i own two of them, which is pretty scary.. i love alot of cars.. these two are just the first off a very long list of projects (and probbly the cheapest to buy/easiest to find)

impulse buy...

haven't looked back!!
02hondaGRL
cos when i break up with 'major' bf's... i kinda go on a bit of a shopping spree... last effort was a full alpine system and body kit for my car (post-mirage: got that cos i had a choice between a Barina, Echo (ew), and mirage: sister wrapped 'my' old purple mirage around a pole outsdie of st Mary's few weeks before i went for my Ps - so lovely daddy bought me the mirage from the insurance money).

GOt the teggie cos yes, broke up with nick, and ta-da, we have a new car on the doorstep, much to my parents disguist. Originally was looking (this is all in one random day btw - not planned) a turbo Golf new one, then decided too small, then wanted a white WRX up at subie in town, but some chick put a deposit on it.. then went to BMW cos i've always wanted a 318iS, but they had crusty old barely '90 model's there which were all auto anyway... THEN went to city motors moonah, looked at a very sweet kitted green SS ute, but thought $34k was a bit steep... THEN saw the tegra round the corner being detailed.. said i wanted to take it for a drive, there and then, did so, signed the papers for it an hour later. Broke the news to my parents 1.5 hrs after that... Lets just say, u could hear the bombs in bagdad going off over my house :|.
ronald_r32
you were looking at a rex then a SS, and chose a Teggy? hmmmmm big differnce there
CAMEL
Haha

I drive a mini cause its fun,
and dont give shit what anyone would think about it. Its an icon in the motoring world, so i must be proud of it/ It would stick it up many a new car whilst racing through the twisties ( if i could be fucked getting me a brake pedal back biggrin.gif ), and if had my time again, could almost have gone a 'boost' option as this website, if i cared or had of thinked hard enough before i wasted 5 months getting it fixed up. But its great fun, and i couldn't be without it, its so much fun. wink.gif
02hondaGRL
ultimate car: BMW OR a F250.

Always like hondas, really really really wanted a Euro, but there wasnt any at the yards i went to. There was a red type R that lived down from my ex's, and i fell in love with that then.. (my model), so that was in the back of my mind.
Then was thinking i'd like a turbo, so thinking WRX or cute buzzy turbo, eg. Golf - and i knew how cute they were cos Rob Miller had that black one with white rims. Love WRX's for their shape, dislike them cos of their front seats - too hard to sit in. but thought better of getting a wrx cos i can't justify paying $$$$ for insurance U25 turbo etc... And i'd prob kill myself and dad would shoot me if i got a turbo.

Reason why i almost iddnt get the teggie was cos 1. it was silver (dont rate silver: both cars have been silver so far...) 2. i wanted a 4 door cos mirage was a bitch to have ppl sit in (having to re-adjust seat etc).
- fixed that problem. I dont let ppl sit in my teggie if its not in the front seat LOL
CAMEL
you've already had 2 goes at this tongue.gif.
02hondaGRL
well ronald r32 made a comment - so stated why so many diff choices. sad.gif

Doesnt matter what or how many you look at it the car you bought is somthing to talk about more why you fell for that, Just like the girl or the Guy that becomes part of your life. For me it was my skyline until it was almost stolen and damage in my own driveway so i traded it for the magna after looking around.

02hondaGRL dont worry about them you chose what you like dosnt matter if you looked at a Sirion or a HSV or BMW or hat ever it the honda that you have now, Apart from the next time you split from your BF next time cant wait to see the out come on that Keep us posted thumbsup.gif

ottoS13
tried drifting every single car i've ever owned. went through dads '85 bluebird trx, '88 pulsar vector, '87 vl, '94 tickford fairmont and then got the silvia.

never knew about drifting in the early days, i just liked getting sideways. seen it somewhere, found out what cars were good at it and fell in love with silvias.

s13 i own was an impulse buy - it just looked good, i had my money ready for a while, didnt want to import my own and it was just there

edit:
this photo and lots of drift footage made me want a silvia

Why did you buy a VL tell us and we will know.

Ok the point guys is to tell a little about why u wanted THAT car this so we know what you like and so forth, as a group we meet and know little about someone. Its a learning curve to get to know someone and their car, BUT this a chance to tell us why you got it maybe a impulse buy or thats the car you could afford, dont worry if you think that cause its a NOTHING SPECIAL this car is special to you...
crazytrain_rolla
Love Toyota and nissan! dad made me fix the rolla from a wreck and that just made me fall in love with it. Wouldn't dream of tading it for anything else. And like otto i'm a big siliva fan (GO the S13 tongue.gif) not so much for the drifting thou (hard to drift a rolla dry.gif) just like them, awsome with bodykits drool.gif
harolto
well.....
I have always like the TA22 celicas since i moved to tassie (when i was 3) and saw my uncles GT,
for my 1st car i didnt care what it was tongue.gif i just wanted a cheep car, ended up geting a 81 Mazda 626 and wrote it off the first day i had my Ps tongue.gif oops
so, after pairs going off at me they decided i needed to have more respect for my car,
I didnt want a 2door because im fat and wouldnt fit too well tongue.gif and i knew i would always be carting around passengers, and i wanted a RWD 6 cyl, so the choices were, Commodore, Falcon, Cresseda, or R31 Skyline, and i didnt want a ford or holden, and cressedas were too expensive
so they went 1/2s in a reparable write off R31 from pickles auctions
got the R31 then spent 3months working on it and getting it ready to be rego'd, learnt alot about it from fixing it, and from forums,
found out that they are easy to modify, so after a year the head cracked on the RB30, replaced that, then it kept stuffing up and was bearly drivable, and i had a R31 wagon anyway, so found a RB20 for sale in tassie, brought it and began the conversion
after i got the engine i was in a car accident and recieved a fractured verterbra, so this was going to slow down my conversion ALOT, but mates all chipped in and helped me out alot, and because if them i got it done biggrin.gif
, after about 3months it was back on the road again, and manual biggrin.gif and loving it biggrin.gif
But now that its 95% complete project its time for it to go,
found a TA22 celica, the model i wanted with fuel filler on the back, so brought it, now the R31 is up for sale, and the Ta22 will be getting a huge makeover,

Well....
my first car was a toyota and after going thru a few datsuns a few fords and a few holdens i went from a bubble back ford laser to my blue pretty much stock celica.
i loved the shape of them (soooooo 80's) and they are different yet underneath they are alot like other sports cars

so yeah thats pretty much why i picked them even with 90 hp they suprise a few ppl.
Lancer Guy
brought my lancer coz i got it for 3 grand and it had only done 5,000km and i brought it off my dad so i knew there wasnt anythink wrong on it cant complain part from its slow
special_agent_bilge
i saw my car before i owned it driving through town, it was real low real loud and looked kinda cool and different,
i saw it for sale about a year later and i needed a wagon to drag my drum kit around in, so it was just what i needed
the police seem to not like it tho...
but thats all good..

bought the ta22 celica for a runabout it was heaps cheap and it handles pretty good for what it is, and seems to be pretty reliable.
needs more power tho..

I didnt really know what i was looknig for at first. Just wanted somthnig that looked nice and drove ok really.

then one night i was on tassie cars. This was about 2am and i was getting sick of scroling through every page looking at cars and finding nothing. got about 10 pages from the end, and decided i would go to bed. Went upstairs to go to bed then realised i left the computer on. I went back down, and scrolled through a few more pages. nearly chucked it in again on the second last page.

Clicked it once more and saw the skyline. loved the look of it so i sent my old man who was out at the time a message saying i have found a car to look at. Spent all the next day trying to call the guy, finally got through.

Then i went round and took it for a drive and loved it. Looked good, handled well, lowish k's and was in my price range. I gave my old man my bank account stuff and all my money and said get it checked and do what u can cos he was paying half (thanks dad!!).

Anyway two days later no news, dad calls me and says i need to talk to you come out the front of your mums place in 5 minutes. I thought i was in deep shit for somthing so i went out when he sent me a message to come out to see him sitting up the road a bit in my new car biggrin.gif
He said its mine, gave me one of the keys and now it sits in my garage awaiting the day i get my p's (still gets a thrashing now and then tho!)

I love my car, even though its not turbo. Im happy with it for my first car and wouldnt choose anything different. + i'd kill my self in a turbo car! and isurance sucks hardcore for a 16yo with an import.

knew nothing really about cars, and still dont really but have learnt a whole lot more. Got on boost, intoduced myself, made a heap of new mates its been good.
CAnt wait till i can finally (legally!) drive it by myself.

Well, I started my driving career in a family car *cough camry* and used to give it heaps.

Things slightly improved when Grandfather thinking that he was doing me a favour, and bought a 1990 Bitsamissin Magna on my behalf, and it would of been rude for me to decline to buy it off him. As a drivers car, it wasnt much better than the family camry, but at least it was manual.
I started cruising with a bunch of people who loved to get out in the twisty backroads and give their cars a flogging. Needless to say, I often found myself at the back of the pack, but had a great time anyway!
The acceleration car club was founded by that same group of people who used to drive every weekend from when it got dark, often only heading home to bed when the sun was coming up.
The Magna became somewhat of a legend on gravel, a long wheel base combined with pedders shocks meant that it was a piece of piss to rip on the handbrake and and casually manouver the wheel backwards and fowards with one hand, doing continuous massive angle fishtails for 100s of metres. But that has all come to a stop sadly. A few of you on boost know why I cannot partake in these activities any more biggrin.gif

I have loved skyline GTRs for years, and had planned to buy one as my first serious car. After a bit of research, I realised whilst I could afford to buy one, I was walking a dangerous line, as my level of driving experience could lead to dangerous results in a high powered monster, with me being used to front wheel drive four door boats! *GTR will be my next car, say 2008, or when I get sick of vtec*

Late last year, a DC2 Type R came up for sale in a car yard down here, and despite the exorbitant price tag ($28.5k) I became interested, having heard of the formidable reputation of these cars. It was mint, and it was eventually bought by another guy in Hobart that has since apparently chucked the shits when he heard that there was another red type R about smile.gif
Anyways, I took it for a drive and loved its looks, handling, grip and interior layout (mmm Recaros smile.gif ) The engine revved like a champ and the engine note sounded awesome.

I didn't buy this car due to the fact that I didn't want to spend that much on a car that was going for $5K cheaper in Melbourne.

Earlier this year, I was browsing the classifieds on the main Boost page, and came across a red 2001 type R, that had a few simple mods: air filter, minor exhaust mods, lowered springs, and 17' rims for $22k.
The only problem was that it was up in Queensland. I had one of my mates up in Brisbane test drive the car on my behalf, and having a similar taste in cars and driving style to myself, he was a person whose opinion I valued highly. He loved it, so I arranged my finances, and booked a flight to Brisbane as a holiday/car buying expedition.

I drove the Integra around a few good roads near the owners house, and loved it.
Needless to say, I joined the vtec club by the end of the day.

I kept the car at my mates place south of Brisbane for a while, as my work schedule didnt give me enough time to drive the car back down to Tassie. I impatiently waited several months, before Dunky kindly offered to drive the car from Brisbane to Sydney, and catch the ferry to Devvy, arriving in Hobart to find its owner in a frenzy waiting for it to get here.

The Integra is pure Japanese performance, and I like nothing better thsn giving it heaps through some twisty bits, laughing at how it surprises the drivers of more expensive and higher powered cars.
If you enjoy doing this, hit up the link in my sig and come join the acceleration forum.

Well, thats my essay for the day, had to outdo Muz tongue.gif

since been sold apparently not 100% sure for a MY05 WRX but how true the rumour is ill have to confirm...

with my car it was.. sort of a spare of the moment thing.

i had been looking at cars on the net for months and didnt quite have enough to buy the blasted thing myself... so i harassed my parents to let me buy a car to no avail...sad.gif

then one day mum said to me that if i were to get one that a 4 door hatch would be suited and to me it didnt really matter id chosen a AE92 corolla or a civic of some description...

so i kept looking and annoying my parents til one day it was a sunday actually i was searching the pages of www.carsales.com.au wink.gif and i came across a blue 2 door ED which i was quite in love with at the time (and still am) told mum and dad and they finally said well if u have the money will start looking but not today pissed.gif so i just left it.

a week later i showed my pars again and they both agreed it would be a nice first car:) so dad said well go ring the lady and ask if we can see it. so i did and we drove up there.

i looked and was impressed straight away even tho it was dirty as inside and out.... dad looked to be just as impressed as me... so we took it for a flog up the mount nelson lookout where we stopped and gave it the once over. then dad rung mum and said its really nice better than expected...... then 20 mins later we made an offer.. she didnt take it at first as it was quite low but she was moving away the next day so she said she'd get back to us... we left and were driving home got halfway down the outlet (from the uni accomodation) and she rang.

so we went home got the dosh and brought it.

and i am very happy with it to this day even tho it has been a @#$! at stages smile.gif

and it has ample enough power for a little p plater like me personally i dont think i could have gone wrong PW,PS, AC wat everone needs in there first car:)

just a pity bout the dual carb sad.gif

but it has a lovely note on my new 2" cat back smile.gif

The Toucher
Always been a Porsche guy since my first matchbox car, one day my old man rings me up at work and says "I found a nice car out the back of Boccinos, you should come have a look", Im thinking suuure, long story short, a few weeks later the bank owned it and I drove it, and as of 6 months to a year ago, I now fully own it, its a good feeling.

Why I love it... the handling is fkn amazing, grip that rivals an AWD, once the cam kicks in the power is stunning, enough torque to pull stumps, very unique customised kit that actually compliments the car (Vielside could learn alot from these Europeans, the best kit is the kind you cant even tell is a kit), I love to be unique and would hate to drive the same car as some1 else, it sounds like a real car should, + other stuff i cant think of.
DarkAgent
Wanted a good base for a drift vehicle...hence the R32 and 180sx.

Liberty...wanted a half luxury performance vehicle.

WRX...wanted a wagon and performance. What else is there in the market in a wagon?

escort...gotta have the old school ride just for some fun.

Had a dirty old VH commo wagon to start off with, good reliable although thirsty beast, got myself a Pintara wagon, which rolled down my driveway and rear ended a ute. Got an old C210 skyline after that, sold it and bought a TP magna, used a fuckload of petty and rattled a lot, sold that and got myself a decent blue R31, wrote that off (not my fault) and got a cheapo Ti R31 with all the luxuries, flogged that for my current R31, which was cheap, had a decent engine transplant, had new paint etc, but needed a bit of work, have done all that and never looked back, just need the funds together for the turbo conversion now, seing as tho its already an RB25 it shouldnt be all that hard
-BITCH-
i bought it coz im a bogan at heart!

does that make me a bogan :|... because looks and speach wise i'm pretty far from it!

Well when looking to buy a first car dad's words were something like "nothing over four cylinders, no turbo, no rotary, no DOHC, no sports cars, and it had to be manual"

88 n13 pulsar vector - had it for about four years, brought it stock and lowered it, 17's, exhaust, sterio, POD and vl enjectors (they go a little harder in them)

eventually returned it to standard bar exhaust and sold to to a girl who is now going out with my bro.

90 rnn14 GTiR - I love nissans, didn't want a silvia or skyline and wanted to spend around 15k. I wasn't overly fussed if it drifts or not, and I wanted something different that I didn't know of any females owning. oh and it had to be sr tongue.gif It's a great car to drive and is good for my driving style - because accelerates quickly and hangs on the corners, sometimes with a understeer. Plus it's lighter than a WRX. Also they go really well without making many mods.

Though for space it's not really a family car, so I might have to sell it one day - that'll be a sad day, i'll cry sad.gif

Good thread. thumbsup.gif

There I was driving to work in the first year of my P's in my Dad's Ford Laser wagon, I was saving for a GT-Four Celica. Found an RC model in Low Head on Ebay (was Cut's old car) and went to the bank to look at getting a loan. Emailed the owner a bit, got a loan approved, but then decided that the car wasn't in the sort of condition I required (driveshaft bearing problem). Had a small loan approved to cover what I couldn't upfront, got a quote on a ST185 for $2,000pa full comprehensive insurance, shat my pants and decided I needed to get the next-best-thing to a GT-Four at my current age. Decided I wanted a neat and tidy late-model 'white' ST184 Celica with all the options (sunroof, factory "15s etc.), something that looked good but wasn't going to cost the earth. I looked at about 5 cars in Tasmania and discovered that no one looks after these Celica's, all of them had shit going wrong, 2nd gear syncro's shot, dings, oil leaks the whole lot. Thought 'fuck-this' I'm going to the mainland for a good example.

*breath*

Looked on carsales.com and found one that had a good 'honest' sounding description in Adelaide. Called the owner and asked my ridiculously long list of questions (any rust, oil leaks, dings, problems etc..) he was honest and said there was a leak from the O-ring but he said he had the part and that he just hadn't had the time to put it in. Guy seemed really good to communicate with, professional, polite and honest. He emailed me a portfolio of pictures from every angle of the car, including minor gutter marks on one rim, scratches under the front bar etc. I made him an offer slightly less than he was asking and he said he'd had a slightly better offer from a bloke down the road but he thought that I would be a more suitable owner to look after it. SO off I flew with my fiancee to Adelaide, had the Spririt of Tas booked for the trip home and had planned some other activites for the drive home (more like a holiday with a purpose). Arrived in Adelaide and the owner picked me up in his sister's car, took me to his house and there she was so BEAUTIFUL and SHINY. He'd obviously spent a few hours washing and polishing her because it looked like it had just rolled out of the factory. He showed me every inch of the car and how to operate it, I was pretty blown away, this guy had really looked after it. So I signed the paperwork and drove her down his driveway and out of Adelaide. He sent me a sms the following day to ask how the car was going and to tell me to "look after her and drive safely". Anyway the drive back to Melbourne was smooth, had a night there and dined at St Kilda beach for Valentines day (awwwww). Boarded the boat and brought her home!

*breath*

When I got it back to Tassie I had the rego transferred and the O-ring replaced and it came up mint. To this day I still chat to the previous owner who helps me with stuff now and then. He has since owned a ST204 Celica and a ZR Celica and still says that he wishes he kept the ST184. Good bloke!!!

The Starion story is much shorter I promise!!! Been looking for a white Stazza for ages, thinking I'd need to go to the mainland for this as well, until one Thursday a girl at work had picked up the Trading Post. I scabbed the TP off her during a quiet moment and to my disbelief there was one in Lenah Valley. Called the owner, asked the colour (LOL) he said white and I thought all my Christmas's had come at once. Viewed the car on Friday but it had a flat battery from sitting around, cosmetically it looked pretty ghey but I had plans so I wasn't concerned. Went back to his house the following day (April Fools day) to test drive the beast. It was pissing down and there were about 5 accidents in Moonah alone, one big one occured right in the intersection I was turning off at, would have been me cleaned up if I was going straight ahead. Anyway, car drove pretty well, came on boost okay, sounded good BUT looked shit, lol. Regardless I said take my money and I'll take your car, and I was on my way home in my new Starion while the missus drove the beloved Celica sheepishly behind me.

With petrol prices increasing I didnt really want another performance car that would suck down the juice.

In the past some of the reasoning behind what I have bought is because Ive never had one. The SS was cool, but trucks are tougher.

tasride would know Ive been keen on trucks for quite some time. There is something different about them. They're in a league of their own.

ever since i read a review of the elise i've wanted one. only problem is they ain't cheap in oz... but they are in england.....

then one day i saw a magazine cover with the 340 concept car on the front. concentrated elise - ooh yeah - 3 came to australia, not road-legal!

so being bored with what i was doing, decided to take a job in england for 2 years, and bring back a 340 under personal import.

there are a lot of fast cars out there, but very few that handle like a lotus biggrin.gif
