WILLIAMS INKS TOYOTA ENGINE DEAL

Williams has agreed a three-year engine supply deal with Toyota, according to a report on autosport.com.

The website reports that Grove-based team will join forces with the Japanese manufacturer from 2007 after a single year with Cosworth power.

The commercial terms of the deal are not known but it is believed that it will run for two years with an option for 2009.

Williams has repeatedly made it clear it has been delighted with Cosworth’s performance and service this year.

But a tie-in with Toyota makes sense in the longer term in view of the car giant’s ambitions and deep pockets, and is also likely to increase sponsorship opportunities for the independent squad.

The deal is not expected to be confirmed until the Canadian Grand Prix.

Toyota’s decision to supply Williams will leave Midland looking for an alternative engine supplier for next season – although the future ownership and direction of Alex Shnaider's team is in any case uncertain.

No real surprise.

Fingers crossed webs at renault 07.

if he wants to start winning and have a shot at the title before he gets too old, he needs to leave williams at the end of this year and get himself into a renault.....

being there would also open future doors for teams like ferrari and mclaren

renault is the most obvious option

considering briatore is his manager, however mark has publicly said a number of times he wants to stay with williams.

as frustrating as it is you have to respect it i guess...

next year is going to be another development year :SSSSSSSS

it's depressing really, i mean, he's showing good loyalty, but in a sport like formula 1, that doesn't really mean much, you gotta take the opportunities when they come, and to step into the seat of the world championship winning car doesn't come along too often

i think briatore should flex a bit of muscle and demand, as webbers manager, he joins renault

imagine webber in the best car on the grid...... look what he can do in an underperforming, mid pack car, think what he could do with the best equipment possible
HooDs
yup.

completely agree.

Marks loyalty could put him under the pump!

There are rumours that Frank Williams wants Button again, and that Button is considering it.

If that isn't a sign for webs to go then I dunno what is!
R31 King
yeah i think that's a pretty good reason to get out of there really, button is a bit of an egotistical moron

go to renault, who are the best team, fastest, best handling cars, awesome engineers, or stay with williams, a developing team, new engines next year, not a very good group of engineers and just too underfunded to be competing for wins

and renault have commited to formula 1 for the next 5 years i believe, so get in while they are still top

loyalty will get you a long way, but not in a sport like this, you take the rare opportunities when they come along, don't pass them up and let your career slip away from you
