WILLIAMS INKS TOYOTA ENGINE DEAL
Williams has agreed a three-year engine supply deal with Toyota, according to a report on autosport.com.
The website reports that Grove-based team will join forces with the Japanese manufacturer from 2007 after a single year with Cosworth power.
The commercial terms of the deal are not known but it is believed that it will run for two years with an option for 2009.
Williams has repeatedly made it clear it has been delighted with Cosworth’s performance and service this year.
But a tie-in with Toyota makes sense in the longer term in view of the car giant’s ambitions and deep pockets, and is also likely to increase sponsorship opportunities for the independent squad.
The deal is not expected to be confirmed until the Canadian Grand Prix.
Toyota’s decision to supply Williams will leave Midland looking for an alternative engine supplier for next season – although the future ownership and direction of Alex Shnaider's team is in any case uncertain.
