First of All, whilst we get this party in gear, stary by downloading this great, free little application called FrameFun:

Right Click, Save As (zip file)

Extract Framefun.exe to your usual program haunt

A stock image:

IPB Image

Execute the program (don't worry, it's virus and spyware free, I checked) and you'll be faced with this view:

IPB Image

by using file --> Open, import your photo through the file browser and click the Open button and your screen will now look a little like this:

IPB Image

At this point, you may wish to change the Frame 1/x values (to change the amount of frame you have outside your border you have) and the Border Abs. (the thickness of the direct border around the image) and of course your colour selection, black on white, white on black, red on blue, green on yellow, whatever tickles your fancy:

IPB Image

Once you hit the apply button you'll be shown a preview of framed image:

IPB Image

At this point, you can also add a watermark or Tag to the image, click the ... button next to the watermark text and a new screen with pop open:

IPB Image

As you'll notice, I usually tag my images in the bottom left corner... so that's the placement check I use... however I use about 5 or 6 space in the text field to ensure my name is within the frame... I also use 13pt font to give a decent sized tag on my web images because I always resize my pictures down to 800x533 pixels (relative to image original size for proportions)... again, this is personal preference...

clicking the preview button will drop your watermark onto the frame where ever you selected to put it, clicking ok adds this to the image.

Now don't be alarmed when your watermark does not appear in the right hand preview frame of the original window... it doesn't appear until you save the image.

Again because of web, I use progressive JPGs... so tick that text box... then it's just a matter of doing a file --> save or save as... and that's it.

and the results:

Pretty simple?

Thanks for reading.

Matt

... And if you cant trust mattson, who can you trust!

Nice looking program, I made a macro in PS but this looks a hell of a lot easier smile.gif

mattson
if you can't trust me, trust symantec's norton anti-virus and microsofts spyware defender tongue.gif

we're all doomed

I can hear pc's shutting down everywhere and it's all my fault smile.gif
Psi
thanks mattson its a great program
what program do u use to resize images? besides photoshop
gus.
mattson, know of any for Mac Os x platform

Also might jus spin some stuff out while i have the time:

best to place your name or alias over the image, cus image freud is happening alot especially on deviantart were noobs are selling off others artworks as there own and also incl. in portfolio work etc.

To solve it I know many designers create just a text layer in Adobe Photoshop as a pattern, then using the cloning pattern tool to just brush the text over. Time consuming a bit tho.

never seen that program before, personally i use mikes framer, which is a bloke on a forum i visit (potn) who created it, and caused us all to fall in love biggrin.gif

i didn't pay for mine, but he's asking a tiny amount these days, i definately think it's worth it
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/pooternerds/Framer/

i have the CS2 framing script, and it works a charm, you can go from basic frames, to over the top presets, or make your own

you can add the EXIF data to it, resize it, sharpen it, add mattes, shadows, *thinks*
theres a sh*t load you can do, have a look smile.gif

I already use this thanks to you Mattson, I get an error at when saving though so I copy and paste it into paint and save it that way. I am probably doing something wrong though so I'll step by step through it tonight when I have more time smile.gif

Angus - Unfortunately I don't know of a version for mac-os... sad.gif I'm also not too concerned about frued of my images... mainly because when I web-erise them they are too small to use other then a 6x4 print and even then it'd be pretty average looking... but if other people are knocking off mine and claiming them as their own.. well good on them... smile.gif

Mattyb, I'm sure there are other tools out there which offer similar or more features (as in your example) but it's good to know of alternatives - albeit cost based ones.

PSI - for individual resizing, I use Irfanview (www.irfanview.com) it's completely freeware and easy to use, plugs into just about everything, except it's not very well optimised for handling RAW images... gets a bit boggy.

for Bulk resizing, I use Google Picaso, it's also good as an image viewer/digital photo album, cause you can see all your pics in one big window, timelined, etc... you just select the ones you want and export them to smaller images.

Ang - nearly forgot you - Let me know if you can't solve it... I'll give you a hand
Psi
thanks mattson i didnt know you could resize in Google Picaso
Lance
I use photoshop for my borders etc.

Nice looking program thou

FWIW... Irfanview does bulk resizing too. Under File, Batch Conversion/Rename

Just make sure you click the "Advanced" button down the bottom right to get all the aspect ratio / auto rotation / clipping / sharpening / contrast / etc options up smile.gif

I love irfanview.
mattson
There you go... I am a big fan of irfanview too... so knowing it does bulk resizing it's just another reason to use it a bit more smile.gif
Twist
Thanks for that Matt

I hope you dont mind me using the same-ish border but after playing around in that program I finally found the right text and came up with this shot of the girlfriend hsdance.gif

Will most likely be using this program for all my photos now smile.gif

simple and easy program to use thanks for that

Irfanview is pretty good, but i don't really trust the compression methods of some programs, so i created an Action in CS2 to resize to 800x at the longest dimension, and in CS2 i can do batch actions, so yeah.

Give Irfan another go, it can do all that and has about 8 different methods of compression and resizing to choose from to make sure you get the best quality out of it. Much quicker to load and use than CS2 actions in my experience.

for those that are interested, microsoft has a powertoy called image resizer. it does individual and batch, preset to 3 sizes or custom. nice and easy. select all the pictures, rightclick, "resize images"

as well as RAW image thumbnailer can be found Here
mattson
Google Picasa 2 is another program that does image resizing and raw viewing etc and even some basic corrections and adjustments...

much more powerful then any MS product unfortunately - and it's free smile.gif
