Full Version: Picture Of The Week 30-april-2006
Boostcruising.com > Photography > Picture of the Week
mattson
After consultation with my panel of anonymous judges, we've deteremined that this week Boostcruising Picture of the Week winner is Lance (DR1F7) who reclaims the prestigous title again for the week after winning the first BCPOTW comp in March, with his photo:

IPB Image

Conversation points were the originality and simplicity of technique which make this a powerful image, from the point of view that crooked horizons in landscape-esc shots are usually considered a photographic fapaux, yet the crashing of the wave reminds us that the ocean is a powerful beauty, and beach go-ers have usually at some point in their lives found themselves lying flat in the sand looking on as the next set roll in.

Congratulations and keep the pictures coming guys and you too could see your picture here, The judges made specific mention that this weeks winner was hard to pick, with the calibre of content elevating all the time.

So good work guys and girls.

Feel free to congratulate and discuss this image till your hearts are content. I'm sure once again, Lance will be happy to answer any questions you all might have towards the image.

The Boostcruising Team.

Congrats.

nice work lance, good stuff

i agree with you and the judges and where you are coming from but personally the crooked horion does distract me a bit and lets the shot down, but that is my own thought anyway

but non the less still a great shot lance and congrats on claiming it a 2nd time

If there had been bigger waves. This photo ftw.

Although, I still like it alot.

Hmmm, not much contrast in colors, or variety of colors. I see the effect going for in the crooked horizon, but in scenery photographs a crooked horizon doesn't suit, crooked horizons generaly suit abstract or artistic shots. Not very good lighting.

Not one of my favourites, seen alot better from "DR1F7".

I enjoy these lower perspective shots.

I can see some sort of cityscape in the distance? Complements the scene - very subtle.

nice shot DR1F7

ok it is a nice photo, but it could be so much better..........try use AUTO CORRECT in the program and that will bring the colour out of the photo so much more then it is.

noooooooo auto correct (aswell as auto colour, auto levels, etc) KILL photos, don't be a sucker to the easy option lol

I was standing up when i took it, didnt wana lie down, I dont fancy forking out for another 350D so i took the shot standing up. I was gonna readjust it in photoshop, but then I dont like post editing, mostly all I do is crop, and add a border. Thats all.

Auto correct is cheating, I find it easier to retake the shot, learning to use the histogram, and adjust from there, rather than post edit. Photography is picture taking, art is using photoshop I feel. I am not an artist, I am a photographer.

Cheers matt and everyone else for their points, I love hearing C+C, keep it comming smile.gif

I mean no disrepect by these comments and Lance knows my feelings on the subject, however I must say that I feel this photo is not to the usual standard of the shots that have won so far, and is not the best picture of the week.

I feel several other users have been disadvantaged by this.

agreed.. it is a very nice shot, but there were better options for pic of the week smile.gif

(go on lance.. CHEAT.. you know you want to) tongue.gif

with some brightening up and a splash of contrast it would look better, but still, it doesn't do much for me

some of DR1F7's other shots should have won lol

We all know he sucked somebody off to win this weeks picture of the week. That's what Lance does best tongue.gif wink.gif
