First car: The Merc i own right now.
RWD, Coupe, much fun.
Pretty much all Mercs are RWD, so if you like older 4 door Mercs, theres a hint, but if you like to have spare cash in your wallet a lot, don't get one, because everything is expensive on them, even the old ones.

Apr 24 2006, 08:42 PM

Heh, I too need advice on a first car. It's either that or a bike, haven't decided which i want yet...

Apr 28 2006, 05:22 PM
I would go a car 1st, get all the speed and wrecklesness out of your system!!! One mistake in a car might mean your without your car for a week one mistake on a bike on the road might mean you without your life!!!! It's not you which you have to worry about but all the other dickheads on the road. As for what to get it really depends how much money you have to play with and what you want!!!!

I like the idea that holden parts can be found every where... coz they fall off other peoples cars all the time

Nah, im not a commo fan.
RdS:
May 1 2006, 10:20 PM
commodore or falcon..
some of you people hate them, sayin' they fall apart and are unreliable. but thats just what it seems. the people who end up buying them are dipshits.
they thrash the fukc out of them... until the auto's break, diffs are rooted, or the engine just dies.
if you want one.. get a good one. dont buy one that has belonged to a p-plater.. it is not worth it... who cares if its got fkn VY ss rims and a sub... you can put that in yourself.
and properley maintained, they will go for thousands of kays. parts are cheap, and they are common.
ah well.. whatever.

May 2 2006, 04:45 PM
Its not that they are unreliable, its that they are too common, a done up commodore to me is just another car i see 50 times a day. Sure they are alright cars, good performance and all, but i don't really wanna join the pack. Thats why i got my car, be unique, plus i am a Merc enthusiast, and you get a lot of looks
RdS:
May 3 2006, 12:04 AM
yeah.. of course.
i couldnt see myself owning one.. its just not me.
i love sportscars.. i love coupes. just that so much effort is put into making them perfect. they are uncommon, and they are a pain in the ass to live with

but these kids wanted a first car.. i dont think looks or induviduality are important.

I dont care if its been panel beaten with a hammer a couple times. Hell, I don't care if its got 2 tone colour because of mismatched doors. I've had around 130hrs L's practice, most on a manual and in all conditions but snow, plus i've driven power levels from 1.8 pulsar to 4.1 BA falcon. And a slightly modified R31. After all that experience (a hell of alot more than most learners) I want somethin with a bit of poke (Id love an R31). I've been in a car when me mates ass dragged it down a dirt road and we went through a fence. I know how much he regretted it and now how much its costing him and how SHIT SCARED i was. I don't wanna do that in my car.
Fuck, what a mouth full.......
^^did that make any sense?^^ congrats if you understand it

^^^^^ good luck finding a good condition r31 these days, i personally wouldnt mind one my self if it was manual and in prestine condition but the search for one is too hard and too long

Good for a drive while i'm still on my L's? *batts eyelids* That'd make me one of the few L platers to drive an R33. Certainly a good experience, know what im up for if i ever owned a turbocharged car. *batts eyelids again*

I reckon a nice lil gemmi sounds good. Cheap to buy, parts are easy to find, i guess they wouldnt use too much juice, and mostly reliable if its looked after.
RdS:
Jun 22 2006, 01:30 AM
id go an old rolla if i had a choice of gemini vs. corolla

but then again, the early gemini's do look pretty cool.
as a first car though? i dont think so. they are old and unsafe. crap to start in the mornings, and easy to steal... whereas something like a cheapo magna (as carez said) will be a bit safer and easier as a daily/learn mobile.
GammaGrL
Jun 23 2006, 10:34 PM
get a something common so the parts are easy to find for when u have trouble with it in the future, then do it up in your own unique style...
I like the idea of a gemini, good little cars & if i hear of any one selling a car which is a good deal ill post up the detail here for you
Goodluck
RdS:
Jun 23 2006, 10:44 PM
what sort of gemini are y'all talking about anyway?
not the mid 80's platic bumpered 'T?' are ya?

Jul 27 2006, 05:39 PM
well if ur looking for an ra28 for ya first car and its guna be under $1500 ull be waiting a while all 28's are rusty and shagged not well looked after for that price..
your best bet is an old rwd corrola or a gemini and they are bags of fun, they just love been thrown around corners tires goin mental. ahh they were the days. gemini would have to be a tg there the best or the early model.. the corrola would have to be a ke30 or a ae71 i think and yeah there good fun.
what about a cressida 1988 model they are good comfy and fairly reliable its rwd and a 4 door?
4 door r31 skyline too there cheap and are good.
hotmx83
Jul 27 2006, 09:51 PM
cressida would be good but they only come in auto's (well the mx83's are, 1990 model) and its fairly cheaps for a twin turbo conversion (under 10k) so yeah they are a great car, thats why i bought one

I kinda realise now that the "good cond RA28" market is outta my reach currently. But i have become increasingly interested in R31's < also a member of the club too... Once i get my Tax back and a few more weeks of work i'll be on the 31 prowl.

Fair statement. And i love the bold "when". It will happen one day, im just hoping it's not serious. maybe an aquaplane and a gutter mount or maybe just some small panel damage, I'm not a stupid driver so all i really have to aorry about is other cockhead drivers. And then they pay up

for 1500 id get a Ke70 corolla and do suspension and brake work. Then save up for a 4agze/4age conversion.
