But i would definatly go for the diesel!

err turbo diesel for sure
more torque supplied by the diesel engine, plus the sluggishness is taken care of by the turbo!

if its for OffRoad its no question go the Diesel

remember when your out in the bush water can be your enemy and stop a petrol hilux in its tracks .....

I have had both in my vehicle history.
A 99 SR5 Dual cab 4x4 2.7 petrol
A 01 single cab 3.0L diesel
For off roading the diesel has more than enough power for everything, but is slower than a postie on road.

Diesel if your going to use it for 4x4.
due to the fact that the petrol engine can get flooded in creeks whilst the deiesel doesn't

My dad owns a recovery service, and all his vehicles are diesel Hiluxes, and he will not drive anything else. As has been said, they are not on the fast side for everyday use, but for 4x4'ing, you will be hard pressed to find something that performs as well.
