I thought it might be a good idea to post up the locations you spot speed cameras.
We all know about the fixed cameras on the Tasman Bridge. Its those pesky mobile units that get most of us.
So if you see a speed camera or know of any red light cameras, post it up here and let everyone know the location.

the only prob with this thread is they don't really hang around in those spots for a long time... some spots i could surgest where i OFTEN see them setup time after time is:
**Bottom of cleary's gates (just after that big sweeper of a corner) behind that big bush,
**Bottom of Melafont street,
**Southern Outlet (often behind the rails at numerous locations) towards kingo end
**Berridale near Granada Tav
**Brooker out near Granton turn off's
**Austins Ferry Near St. Virgils College
**South Hobart near St Johns or Cascade Brewery
there are a few spots i often really slow down in and usually often spot those mobile bastards hiding around these spots!!!!

Actually Nick they cant put them behind the rails due to the metal causing interference with the speed sensing equipment.
They are usually on the right hand side between Albion Heights and Mt Nelson (City bound), also occasionally 100m up the road from here in the bushes, on the left hand side in the bushes where it flattens out about halfway between Mt Nelson and Kingston (Kingston bound), and in the clearing on the left hand side further towards Kingo (also Kingston bound).

Yeah they park near the rails but the actual camera is usually set up a few meters away.
I actually spotted one last year on Churchill Ave above Coolabah Rd on the FOOTPATH!!

-There is one famous one at rokeby, when your coming into rokeby from howrah way its just passed the first school crossing or just passed the youth (young crims) centre if your coming the other way.
White van with blacked out windows and lately they've been using a black subaru forester as well.
Everyone that lives south of rokeby would know this camera.
-Occasionally there is also a bike cop with a speed gun a little further north up the road just before the hill.
-Also coming into howrah via the mornington-howrah highway, there is apparently sometimes a gun there and they'll get ya at the 100 - 80 speed zone change.

There is often one as you head out of Sorrell (towards Port Arthur)..
I've also seen one sitting inbetween the two lanes heading into the airport round about where it changes from 110 to 80...

i've asked my dad who is a lawyer about this and i think i remember him saying that they can put a camera where ever they want but they usually don't position them at least 200M before or 200m after a speed change sign, to give u time to slow/speed up
this is because this type of arguement has been fought in caught and people have been let off numerous numbers of times because of it being rediculous to pin people for speeding just after the sign changes!

Beach Road, Kingston, they often put them in the carpark next door to the Child Care Centre and the Kindergarten, just under that bush as the speed limit goes from 50km - 40km.

hey has any body seen the guy who sits in a goldish patrol or landcrusier type thing some times on the brooker. pased rosetta high in both directions some times.
he sits in there with a hand held not sure if its a speed camera or not. it has slightly tinted windows
i normally see him at the bottom of the hill faceing up the brooker before the claremont turn off.

So whats the go with Tassie speed cameras? They sound like cheeky pricks!
In NSW the speed camera's have to be signposted (both fixed and mobile), and they are in a marked car.
And in QLD (i live on the border) the camera cars aren't signposted but they have the police markings on them.
Would be handy to know what tricks the cops use with speed cameras when im down that way later in the year!!

There's about 8 different locations along Southern Outlet, both ways, so watch the speeding. Also once off of southern outlet if heading Kingo beach way, there's always cameras along Beach Road just after the traffic lights which fork off to Auburn Rd, I've been done twice there, friggin 50 zone. Think I would learn after living there most of my life.

keep seeing cop cars in the shadows at night with the lights out....
just my opinion, but wouldn't people be more behaved if they new that there was a cop there instead of them hiding to catch people off-guard???
i mean its like in class at primary school, when the teacher is there, every1 is behaved, but when the teacher leaves the room, every1 does what they want... i know they'll never change the way the do things(the bastard government wont pass up an opportunity at revenue-raising), but i just think that it would be better.....

So, then its alright for people to not behave when they know police aren't about?
I saw a couple of cops sitting in a car with speed gun in the main street of Orford the other day, which i thought was funny.

i'm not saying that its ok... i'm just saying that it would be a more effective way 2 keep people from speeding... because i mean, there is always the risk of having an accident, but the main worry (for me anyway) about speeding, is getting done by the cops. i am aware that that is the wrong attitude to have about speeding, but it is true, thats what most people are like.
