SIR GTi

hay,
i was driving along the other day and suddenly the sir con stoped and it was just the fan blowing normal air. i took it to a mate whose a refridgerator electrician thing and he tested the gas and there is still gas in the system, so i checked the fuses and they're all good, he siad it might have something to do with the compressor not turning on (a control problem somewhere).
i was wondering if there is anyone who knows anything that i could try before i have to take it into a shop to get done??
cheers

If your mate is a fridgie, he should be able to fix it for you. Damn half-arsed fridgies managing to get a license... Gives the rest of us a bad name.
If I was doing it (which I wont, cause I'm lazy and I dont know you) I'd check the power at the clutch for the compressor, and work my way back through the various pressure controls and relays until I found what was stopping the power getting to the clutch. If there is power at the clutch, but the clutch isnt pulling in - its the clutch. If the clutch is pulling in, but the compressor wont turn - the compressor is siezed (this will become more obvious as the belts start smoking)
If its the LP, you're short of gas (did your so-called fridgie mate actually fit guages to the system?) or the control is arsed. If its the HP, it shoulda reset by now. If it stops often, its probably the condensor fan not turning on. You'll find the A/C will work fine while you drive around, but turns off as soon as you get stuck in traffic. Fix the condensor fan. Or the HP control is stuffed. Any of these controls can be bypassed with a suicide lead, or even run a power wire straight to the compressor clutch.
Anyway, tell your fridgie mate to stop being an arse-of-fridgie and fix it for you. Then, pay him with beer.

do what the red krawler says except for the bit where he said run power leads to the clutch is ok for testing but not to fix the problem
