your teacher is right, the box needs to be a certain amount of volume so that the sub sounds good and u can get the best performance out of it, this depends on the sub - the size and power of it. it is best to consult the specs of that certain sub, it will say best volume etc.

Here is another site to consider as well. It has a in depth box building calculator and explanation with many US / CDN retail and industry members.

Find out what type of sub you are making the box for first, then we can give you the best suited box smile.gif

Well there lies your problem - Boss isn't a very reputable brand and therefore doesn't supply stats like RMS figures for power nor recommended enclosure sizes.

To determine what size boxes you need, you need the thiele-small specs (also known as TS specs). These include information abbreviated by things such as Qts (Total Q Factor), Qes (Electrical Q Factor), Qms (Mechancial Q factor), Vas (Equivalent volume) etc - using the figures in the TS specs you can plug those into an Enclosure calculator (something like WinISD - it's free, Google it) and it'll recommend you what type of enclosure would be most suitable.

However as I mentioned about Boss not being very reputable, I don't know whether they'd supply you with the TS specs when you purchased them.

To help with the assignment though, being design and tech, I'd assume you'd need a brief with it relating to what everything means. I'd thus recommend searching Google and giving a brief description as to what TS spec means (ie. What Qts stands for, and means). When I did an assignment a few years ago relating to the Physics of sound I believe I came across a website which had all the definitions of TS specs in one spot.

Hope it all helps! smile.gif
