looking for a long term project or just a shit kicker?
[NOHO32]
Insurance..
Rego
Tires.. alot for drift
5000 couldnt even get you 1 corner decent slide
schtein
Basically just a shit kicker, wouldnt worry about insurance unless it was third party, rego isnt that much down here in tas. Something to have a bit of fun in, thats all! wink.gif
racsov500
you wont get a S13 for under 5 grand, itd be a real shitter.

R31 is the best choice, ive said it so many times I dont think I need too
antonio
very posible to get a s13 auto.. for 5000 if not few hundred more.. just completly stock.. few panel dents..
But if you just want a shit kicker that can get you sliding i think it would be the best choice..
schtein
why auto?

KF_LASER
R31 striped of weight, welded diffn (Illegal), coilovers, pineapples and some good tyres
200sx
Hummer.
Nah you cant ask what a good drift car is without think of a price range and what you want, for explain do you want to have good suspension first or more power, what has to be done to the car before it starts to become a decent drift car.
There is so much you have to take into account before you buy a drift car.
But good luck with it tongue.gif
Lance
I think he wants a peice of poo that will go sideways sticky tongue.gif
DJC
Fast - Reliable - Cheap

PICK ANY TWO.
200sx
yeah but you cant go out and buy any car and make it go sideways unless it rains 24/7
If he get a nice cheap toyota does a few little things to it with a bit of spare cash and you can have a fun filled drift car.
But the main fact is prepare to jump gutters tongue.gif
Lance
Jump gutters, sounds like someone we know on this forum tongue.gif

So true.

An S13 under 5k will end up costing you a hell of a lot more than the initial purchase price.

Old school rolla ftw.
200sx
yeah it will be very hard to find a s13 under 5 g. and i have never jumped a gutter but seen many people do it. I dont street drift i leave all my sliding for the track.
JAM13
datsun 120y
57ING
He did say under $5K, how about you find an old Starion turbo.........they dont handle though.
Jap-Taxi
Nissan Laurel.

But for $5000 you do not have many options.

Toyota Corolla - KE70 - 4AGE
Toyota Sprinter - AE86 - 4AGE
Datsun 120Y - ??? - 2JZ-GTE

For a Silvia to come under the $5000 Bracket it would have to be NA or Auto, or most likely both. I would recommend the KE70 or AE86 Option.
yoshimitsu9
u will never get a sprinter with a 4age for 5k that has a 4age in it, sure ive seen them on fourms but there is always somthing wrong with them.

if a sprinter is the best option (in which i think it is) wait for one with a ca18det or sr20det, they can be found for 10ish and that much more worth saving for

I would of rather gotten that 2JZ Sprinter for 11,500?
Ahahahaahaha, weight to the FRONT of the car please.

Get an old rolla.
racsov500
Im gonna preach My 31 lurve.

You can pic up a manual one for as litte as a few hundered bucks, I got mine for 700. you can get a minispool for a few hundered, exctractors, exhaust system, pod and the usual bolt on stuff for about 1 grand all up, and you caould drift it. the rb30 is fucking tough and has a fair bit of tourqe for an old motor..
youd still have a few grand left so you could get serious with suspension.. S13 coilover go in with a few mods, import R31 R32 R33 S13 ect brakes can go in with the necesarry bits, and Rb20s, Rb25s, and even Rb26s fit in. You can also turbo the original motor for about 5k and have somewhere between 150 and 200 kw, you could put a Rb25 head on the 30 block, theres heaps of options really.

It is the best option for that money, datsun parts are getting a bit tricky to find, you can buy any r31 part for fucking dirt, a whole running motor for about 300 bucks.

Ive typed enough
andrew12a

Sprinter = $2500
4AGE 16 Valve= $1000

Nuff Said.

From here some Coilovers up front, stiffer springs and shocks at the rear, and some sort of lsd (locker, 2 way etc.) and you will be well on your way.
