Hi guys,

I am soon to be embarking on an R32 GTS-t RB25DET conversion which will be done in my driveway with a couple of mates. I have an R33 GTS-25t half cut on the way. My biggest problem is deciding on what engine management to choose and what wiring loom and harness to use.

I have heard rumours that you can use the RB20DET wiring loom and harness with the RB20DET factory ECU providing it has a remap. Is this true? This sounds like a great idea as you would not have problems with any of your ancillaries working. But my concern is the RB25'S VCT?

Another option to consider would be splicing the RB20DET loom into an RB25DET harness mounted with an aftermarket RB25DET ECU (eg, Power FC) as there is no point using the RB25DET Factory ECU. If this is even possible due to the different pin outs.

I mean basically, If i have to re-wire the entire car, i don't mind. I just want some sort of assurance that it is possible to get everything to work eventually. Some advice from someone with experience would be great. Cheers fellas.

Sounds like a bit of a disaster in the making, perhaps consult a professional before you start

There's.....

Haltech
Autronic
Motec
Power FC
Microtek
AEM

It all depends on your budget. WASP Performance is a dealer for most ECU's on the market.

Dood, Wiring loom, harness and Sensors are the issue, not ECU choice. If i go aftermarket using an RB25 harness it will be PFC. Otherwise ROM. An ECU cannot be chosen until i work out what is the best wiring option for my engine and car.

Cheers

No need to be negative buddy, these things aren't meant to be easy.

Anyways, I've written to 3 different performance workshops. Non of them have replied yet.

Can anyone pass on some email address for different workshops that have very strong Nissan engine knowledge and experience so that I can ask them for advice on this issue?

why not use the R33 wiring harness and use a Microtec Plug n Play LT12-S. or alternativly a Wolf Plug N Play VR4.

Each easy to use and capable ecu's that do away with the AFM.

Ohhh i never recieved an email, i would have responded smile.gif

You will have to splice the rb20/25 loom and the rb25 ECU. I have a mate that can do these looms and knows his rb wiring. So PM me if you are interested

Ok let's clear a few things up.

I am going to give the RB25DET loom a go so that i can retain the variable valve timing (VCT). So in a bid to spread some knowledge as i found this information difficult to come by, I am going to post my experiences and complications as i progress with this conversion in hope that it may later help someone else doing this conversion in the future. Here's a few things to consider upon the conversion:

1. Speedo will not work as it is mechanical and the gearbox speed sensor is electrical. (Use a mechanical speedo, and modify the sender to accept the cable).

2. Use RB25DET engine loom and ECU to retain VCT.

3. Use RB20DET power steering and mount to block.

4. Use RB20DET alternator and side loom. (You need to pull apart the RB25 side loom and remove the wires for the knock sensors etc).

5. Heater hoses need to be modified to reduce them to RB20 size. (some sort of adaptor?).

6. The RB25DET has the EGR valve under the plenum, so this runs into the loom running down the drivers side chassis rail (note: the knock sensors do also). Luckily both strip out of the loom and plug straight back into the engine loom.

7. The wiring for the wipers can simply be removed from the R32 loom and plugged back in so the whole amplifier setup and wiring can be removed completely from the RB25DET loom.

More to come. wiggle.gif

Does the mechanical 'sender' off the old gearbox fit in the new one?

You could update the dash to full electrical. tongue.gif

I'd be calling ADD and asking them if they can provide you with some advice. They've done lots of these conversions.

Do not pass go, do not collect $200. Otherwise it'll cost you lots of your time, frustration and effort.

pretty much most of what you need to know

i'd use the full loom from the half cut and the stock 25 ecu
