I was with Telstra and got the plan when I was too young so my old man put it in his name.
I wanted to go with Optus so my old man just had to sign the number over to me and Optus ported my number over and it only took 30mins.

If the number you wish to have is now in your name then it's yours of course however if your contract has been signed off with the new number on it and has been lodged with the phone and sim accepted by you then you're stuck with the sim and phone as is.

Should've held off on signing the papers until the number you wanted was in your name.

you can change a number... to another number that is not attached to anything.... basically a number that hasnt been used yet...

Your number (that was meant to be ported) could be cancelled (which would be then put in a 'pool' where it cannot be touched for 6 months) then would be available again, and you would have to request it as a special number (about $70)

Otherwise, you could beg and pleed and rage at the consultant to cancel your contract, and put through another one.

Or just accept the new number

those are your options

Just do this.

The sooner you do it, the more likely something will be done.

I usually don't condone abusing retail staff, but I'm also aware there's some true douche's in the industry and when they stuff you around, they need to be pulled back in line. I'd recommend dealing with the Manager rather than the salesperson if possible (ie. if they're not the Manager, otherwise, deal with them).

oh its easy if its prepaid

go in and tell them they fucked up, get them to give you a $4 sim card (they can run it through as $0 as it doesnt cost them anything) and just perform the port again

if u had credit on your 'new' number, just use that up on that, or get them to credit u some $$$

i used to work for optus.

to 'cancel a contract' they have to go to the business manager. its a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge fuck around. but you HAVE to go through the store that did it.
