Advice On 35's, on a 4cyl 4runner

hey fella's i got a 91 4 runner its had a 3 inch body lift an i got 33 all terrains on it at the moment..its big an wide an all but i cant stand the look of all terrains so i was wondering on a bit of advice..i got my eye on 35's but iv heard they put too much strain on the engine an clutch an stuff..its only a 4cyl so i was wondering if anybody had done this before an how it turned out for them..

to be honest mate if its your daily 35's are over rated..throw on some 33's in mud terrains..also should consider maybe getting a smaller body lift and installing a suspension lift?

its got a two inch suspension lift too..its lil bit bullshit how big this thing is thats why i was wondering 35's cos theyl fill it in so well..but thanks for the input

You'll have to change the diff gears to suit so the clutch and engine should be fine, its the CVs and axles I'd be worried about.

yeah but i got two mates with patrols an theyv had 35's on for past two years an been sweet..has anybody actually done it/known somebody who's done it an has it been successfull or not?

Patrol diffs are quite a lot bigger & stronger than yours though.

They're definitely illegal.

50mm bigger then stock is the limit so 30s on a hilux is biggest as long as they dnt stick out heaps and u got good mud flaps u wont get picked on i wouldnt go 35s on it id stick to 33s thats what i got they big enough

Ah why ?


Run 33's when daily driving, 35's to go off road. I've got a mate that drives around with 38's on - hasnt been pulled over once.

What type of driving do you do? I do rockcrawling with a number of guys in Hiluxes with 31 and 32" Simex (measure 32-33") and they have no problems going over the same stuff as I do with 35s. You'll gain very little extra ability if you're still unlocked with poor flex and gearing, etc.
