OK, so the GF wanted to upgrade the headlights in her silvia to HIDs, no probs I thought. I get wholesale price on HIDs so I grabbed a set for both my supra and her Silvia.
Supra took around 6 minutes to install them, since they are the digital ballasts they are tiny and no complicated brackets/mounting was needed. With this in mind, I assigned half and hour to do Em's HID conversion... Bad idea. As some of you may know, S13s run some weird ass connector/plug for the H1 adapter into the housing. To do a work-around this issue, it is quite involved and generally requires the removal of the headlight to secure the HID bulbs. Expect to take around 1 to 2 hours to complete this. No particular skill is required, so don't be too scared. If you follow this guide you will be fine Here is a picture of the H1 bulb sitting in its Silvia holder/connector: I spent a couple of days trying to work out how it gets done, but there was jack all info on the net.. So after a bit of playing we came up with this solution, and to save time for the next poor folk who might otherwise throw in the towel and resell the HIDs to another unsuspecting chap, I made a complete how-to guide with images. In short, to do it properly you need to remove the headlights completely, pull them apart, cut stuff, drill stuff, zip tie, etc.. ... and eventually you will get to this: I have done a full write up with a heap of pics here: http://www.streetfx.com.au/product_images/hids/s13/ Feel free to ask any questions or make comments.. By no means am i a professional, so perhaps there is a better way to do this, but believe me, i lookked EVERYWHERE for info on how to do this as we were about to throw it in the too hard basket cos im lazy This post has been edited by WTF: Sep 27 2009, 11:30 PM -------------------- ![]() -current cars- o '97 Toyota Supra RZ 6spd (501rwhp) o '95 Hilux 4x4 3.0TD o '05 Hilux SR5 4x4 o 180sx 6sp widebody racecar o '91 S13 280hp o '89 S13 w' HKS bits -- Mark Facebook: "Mark Trueno" http://www.firesport.com |
