Hey guys, i have a 2001 model au falcon and im interested in putting in a turbo.
Is it worth it or would i have to get an engine conversion.
If it is worth it, is it a lot of work? and roughly how much
cheers, dean

If you're planning on turboing a N/A engine budget at least 8 grand if you want your engine to survive at least a few months. It would be easier/cheaper to just drop a larger Ford engine in it. Would be even easier and cheaper than that to just buy a V8 Falcon.

the 4 litre ford motor is a lot tuffer than people realise. I have turbo charged a few 4 litre fords, standard everything (injectors included) and nothing but a fuel regulator you can easily achieve 170-180rwkw by just simply bolting the turbo up basically. Or you can go the extra step like i did on a few others, when you go injectors and computer and easily start cracking 210-250rwkw no problem. If you want more, then you will need to change the head gasket, but you already have the AU which has the good head gasket so no real stress. They are seriously a very tuff motor. My last one is still running standard head gasket, totally unopened motor and has over 300 thousand km on it now, 100 thousand of those km at 275rwkw and not being treated lightly, ran dozens of 12 second passes with quite heavy wheel spin through first gear. Personally i think the 4 litre ford is one of the best 6 cyclinder motors around, extremely strong.

Tough as shit engine, if it's tuned properly (and with upgraded injectors) you can probably run 10psi of boost safely without decomp or forged internals. High compression + boost = epic fucking wins.
I've got an AU turbo manifold sitting around at work that was made for somebody on here who didn't end up buying it...

Do it.
When we did Falcon 4Litres for Mild turbo set ups at work all we did is rod bolts. Every thing new else new standard parts.

Leaving the engine un-opened is probably just as good, if not better.
