I'm looking at getting my std ecu remapped by chiptorque. I have been quoted $600 for the chip and $200-300 for tuning. I am not modifying (fingers crossed) my 32 after this mod so this i think is the best option. Any opinions welcomed...

yes microtech piggybacked would go better however you have to weigh up the costs of both products...

think about it...would u prefer pay a cpl hundred more for a fully tuneable after market computer...where u can get rid of rev limiter, speed limiter, etc n tune everything...or would u prefer just get a chip which does just 1 thing basically

How good are microtechs but? I was originally thinking either pwerfc or remapped/chipped std ecu. Who has good tuning capability with microtech?
filo, how does gavin do remaps without the aid of a dyno. Might be alright for 32s being standard....but mine isn't. 2530 for a start. Scott -------------------- Jono "JP" Porter, RIP. 12/05/81 - 09/06/04

Any aftermarket ecu is illegal... Duh!
Unless you are going to pay for a closed room emmisions(?) test to be done, which from memory is bout 3k pass or fail, then its not legal... and from tests that have been done, Motec and Autronic are the only two that have ever passed... -------------------- |

you are kidding arent you.......i personally wouldnt let sub zero tune my car if YOU payed for them. my OWN personal opinion. they chip torque chip is a brilliant solution before goin for a stand alone ECU, they are quite affordable and while the microtech might cost only$1275 you need to fit it (a LOT more involved) and that cost money then tune it........and it takes at least 3 times as long to completly set up a new ECU........so thats triple the dyno time. starts getn closer to $2500 in some cases ive seen. bit more than the $950 for the chiptorque chip. ohhh and i was making 216rwkw with mine, im sellin it due to it reaching its limits for my particular set up. bring on the autronic. |

Power FC is the go man...
i can get em for like 1300 brand new fully delivered to my door, to install them is a peice of piss anyone can do it, and to tune will cost about 300 bucks or so... If i could get a microtech for that price i would do it any day just to get rid of that airflow meter, but hey at least he air flow meter is better for normal everyday driving than the microtech.... -------------------- don't smoke cigarettes,

gee chris microtech comes with a base map and mine was a direct plug in to where the standard ecu was removed......an expert tuner of microtech should have it licked in a few hours tops and then no airflow meter and a lot more finer tuning then -------------------- Losing Is Natures Way Of Sayin YOU SUCK

I may be wrong, but isn't Microtech STILL using the same technology from back in the late 80's early 90's?
Sheriff - What about cold start, A/C idle up, etc? I have heard that microtechs have real issues with little things like that. (maybe because they were designed BEFORE air con was Cheers -------------------- The level of stupidity on this site continues to rise..............How is that even possible?

ive actually sold my first microtech to a customer this week johnny, so it will be good to see the way it does run (on an N12 ET pulsar), and the time it takes to tune it properly, alot of my information about the microtechs came from a very respected tuner, i was aware they came with a base map, as do all ECU's, but the time taken to fine tune is a lot longer than a chip torque chip, thats my comparrison.
NOT that they were a bad product, they arent that at all. If im proven wrong in then ill sing their praises all day long |

He get's it on the dyno around the cornor... but yeah that was one of the issues i was thinkin about when looking into it.. Personally id go the power FC option and if EAT17 can source u one for that price its pretty good and im sure he could put u onto someone that could tune it. Sub-Zero sold their dyno to P.I.T.S. in Ernest. I had my car on that dyno a fortnight ago. Matthew Spry who used to work at Chiptorque with the green 10sec gemini owns the place. Did an excellent job with my Haltech.

ive had matt do the chip on my old ca18 silvia, i have to admit he certainly knows his stuff. But if i had to do it all over again, i would get a full aftermarket ecu replacement, its only a little bit more for the initial cost of a chip but you get so many more features!. I personally think if ur going for big power use a aftermarket ecu, but if u just want something to tie all your mild mods together use a chip.

You can get an apexi powerfc for under 1k from nengun atm. Sure its more for tuning (installation can be done yourself, it clips straight in and is runnable on the base map) but I'd rather a PFC than a chip NB - ~300 bucks for a hand controller so you can fiddle yourself, but gavin woods has one there and will set the tune for you so its really not needed.
