evening chaps n saps.
id like to know what you can do to diesel engines to enhance their power, and of course, if there are any diesel tuner cars out there, like seriously seriously tuned diesels? |

i know in america they tune (chip etc) the diesels in their trucks and make stupidly huge amounts of torque, but for more run of the mill cars like diesel hatchbacks i wouldn't know

depends what engine you have, the new VW Golf TDi, and Audi TDi range can have the chips re-tuned, but not sure on older model cars.

Imagine? hell no.
Possible? hell no. Not using the izuzu diesel gemini motor. Having compleate control over your engine as opposed to relying on detonation to run ya motor is one (major) upside to petrol, not like its a huge thing or anything.. Go ahead, build it, Prove me wrong... -------------------- |

diesel cant have BOV cos they run on compression detonation
ONly real thing u can do is either a supercharge or a turbo charger and crank up the boost as most diesel engines are built strong. most can take about 10psi to 15psi |

They're effectively called trucks. Your newer Mack trucks and the like are pulling 700hp from the factory floor, heck most of them are detuned as well. You only have to look at the truck racing to get an idea of what can be done. There are some serious advantages of using diesel engines, as 4x4 mentioned, they usually have a lot stronger internals then your petrol engine, therefore have a better ability to run higher boost, and seeing as a lot of your diesel cars are turbocharged, you don't have to stuff around with conversions. But there are disadvantages as TwinCam has already mentioned. But it goes both ways for petrol motors. All about money. ROCK ON R~R -------------------- Toubl tieping? speeling of consurn? Look up tractor pulling. Big HP diesels and playing with turbos long before the petrol boys thought of it. (Note during the infancy of turbo charging the "big" T4's that the "big" HP cars used were and the intercoolers were all diesel truck bits. Same stuff that works on petrol for the most part will work on diesel. Bigger turbo, bigger intercooler, chips to control fuel quantity and fuel timing (there's no spark timing but fuel timing plays the same role sort of). BOV's and other wanky items won't work because Diesels are controlled by the amount of fuel injected not by the vacuum on the motor. -------------------- Driving a mx5 is like going to the cabaret club, you know it's good for cheap thrills.

Diesels are capable of making power and they do have gains over the petrol engine... Audi proved this at Le Mans with the R10 TDI...
Im not going to go into detail though, you have google for that. -------------------- 04' Honda Accord Euro | 90' Mazda MX-5 | 89' BMW E30 318i

Street Ride and Tractor Pulling is a completly diff subject they also run dry sumps and engines to come from Drots........ and for about all toyota diesel engines u could not run much more over 15psi.....befor you start having issues with fule delivery and so on |

My old man once had his 2.8 TD pajero boosted up. and it went pretty quick for a heavy 4wd. Im pretty sure he went to bob romano. To skip a few things short, It ended up bending a conrod and he got rid of it quick.
Bit off topic but here is something to show people diesels can be quicker than petrol cars in racing. Cost isnt a issue in motorsport http://www.dieselforum.org/technology-spot.../diesel-racing/ ![]() -------------------- mazda rx7 s2 13b turbo -

Here's a few vids
This is a 2L Peugeot TDi with a BOV on a dyno. http://videos.streetfire.net/search/diesel...7bf00512083.htm And a diesel dragster... http://videos.streetfire.net/search/diesel...bf4cd4d0b74.htm This would have to be one of the best movies ever..... little ricebox thinks he has it in the bag. That is of course until the F-350 unleashes his almighty diesel power http://videos.streetfire.net/search/diesel...5ad48f46475.htm This post has been edited by fiddler1000: Sep 18 2006, 06:37 PM -------------------- |

what engine is it... then people might be able to point you in the right direction. Cause if its a VW/Audi TDi.. there are a few forums that a few of us would be able to point you to.

Dunno if this has been mentioned or not. But Peugeot made a supercar with a diesel motor.

I'm fairly certain the blocks themselves would be plent strong enough. From the nizpro website QUOTE Ford F250 Turbo This big beast is another one of the Ford F250 7.3 V8 turbo Diesel's and belongs to Steve Coper; he runs a Motorbike store in Warragul. These are a great hot-up. They start with 132rwkW at around 7psi boost. With NizEdit and custom tuning, 211rwkW's @ 18psi is easy. The main work as far as tuning is concerned is in the auto trans and its shift point. Sort this out and you now have a 3.5 ton racer. Oh, you have to remove the 140kph speed limiter too. http://www.nizpro.com.au/customer_cars.html I'm fairly certain these things will handle even more than that from a little research without too much drama. (IE 30psi of boost). -------------------- Driving a mx5 is like going to the cabaret club, you know it's good for cheap thrills.
