Opal is a 1961 EK Holden Hydra-Matic Special Sedan is fitted with a Grey Motor and Hydra-Matic transmission.
Genuine Patina !
I rescued this lovely gem early this year, and have brought her up to a safe registerable condition with a brake system overhaul, a tune-up and full service as well as cutting out rust in lower rear quarter panels, lower front fenders, front corners of the floor, spare wheel well and fabricated rear wheel arches both sides as well as fitting a new LHR door skin which were fairly well rusted. In order to maintain originality and preserve the genuine Patina that sets 'Opal' apart from the rest, only the essential repairs have been carried out. All repairs photographed before during and after properly cutting out rust and welding in new metal sections. (a CD disc detailing all repairs will be supplied to the purchaser along with all the original books and paperwork. Repco-Reconditioned original matching numbers grey motor runs sweet, the auto shifts nicely, and a power brake booster ensures she stops a lot better than most original EK's
Paint is Snowcrest White over Opal Green and features a dealer fitted side flash kit with gold anodised inserts
She is also fitted with a set of Paint Protection Plates ( Door Handle Scratch Plates), Hood Ornament, Air Chief Radio and Cool-a-Ride Sunvisor, and mudflaps.
All dealer fitted items with original receipts (see photos of paperwork).
The paintwork is in weathered condition (see photos). The upholstery (Valley and Kentucky Green with rare Stardust Grey) is in acceptable condition. The front seat has been re-sprung and reupholstered and is the firmest and most comfortable EK Holden seat I've sat on. You sit high on this one! The rear seat is original and not sun cracked. Rear shelf upholstery is good too. Door cards are in reasonable condition for age. Headlining is okay with minimal sag in one small area. Rear pillars show shrinkage of upholstery. Dash black paint is very good. Dash green paint and trim is in serviceable condition. Dash lights and gear selector light function. Interior paint is in serviceable condition. The face plate and knobs on the radio are sun fried.
This car features the most comprehensive paper history and provenance I've ever seen in an early Holden. Everything is there. Owners books, original dealer receipts, even the optional (various states) selector dials for the Air Chief Radio in the original packet. Not many original or restored cars can display this much original paperwork.
All the books and vinyl folder are in excellent condition.
Even the Air Chief Radio instruction book is there.
The original owner and following owners kept everything. You can follow the history of the car on paper.
Also, it has the rare flash kit fitted which sets it apart from the common herd. You can even see the receipt for it, it cost 27 Pounds Ten Shillings fitted!
How many EK owners can show that?!
You could own a unique EK with an excellent history.
read on for a brief history of the car:
Two days after Christmas Day in 1961, Mr. Maurice Tuckerman drove his 1948 Morris 10 into Hawkesbury Valley Motors in Windsor N.S.W. and traded it in on a new EK Holden Hydra-Matic Special Sedan. The dealership gave him 45 Pounds 2 Shillings and 11 Pence trade in on the Morris and the salesman showed Mr. Tuckerman how his new car ownership could be enhanced by fitting genuine Nasco accessories to his Holden. A discerning buyer, Mr. Tuckerman selected a Weathershield (5 Pounds 3 Shillings), an Air Chief Radio (59 Pounds, 15 shillings), a Coolaride Sun Visor (14 Pounds), Mudflaps (6 Pounds 8 Shillings), Hood Ornament (3 Pounds 11 Pence), Door Protector Plates (3 Pounds 12 Shillings) and a Flashline Strip to the value of 27 Pounds 10 Shillings. With registration and insurance, the total purchase price came to One Thousand Four Hundred and Forty Five Pounds, Two Shillings and Eleven Pence. Mr. Tuckerman no doubt felt proud to drive away his new Holden, registration number CNO-144 and suitably impressed the good citizens of Windsor with his Opal Green flash kit equipped Hydra-Matic Special.
Mr. Tuckerman faithfully returned his Holden for the thousand mile service on 22nd. January 1962 and was so delighted with the friendly people at Hawkesbury Valley Motors that he never went anywhere else for service. Hawkesbury duly completed EVERY coupon in the Protective Maintenance Plan booklet that still resides in the glove box. The last service in the book, 30,000 miles, was completed in the 14th. December 1966.
Mr. Tuckerman and his Holden remained inseparable until the 13th. of April 1999 when he sold it for $3,200 to it's next owner who duly recorded his purchase, kept receipts and sold it in turn to the next owner who did the same. All the paperwork and receipts have been carefully preserved in the glove box to this very day. Are you ready to be the next owner?
