So, for no reasons other than wank factor and because I think I can, I'm going to plumb my UHF's external speaker output through my car's stereo using auto switiching relays so that I can cruise along listening to the radio or cd's but then when the squelch is broken on the UHF and there's a signal coming thru the ext. speaker, the radio is automuted and I hear the transmission through the 4 speaker in the car.

Here is what im thinking, apologies for the crappy and confusing terminology again:

The relay i can get from Jaycar is essentially a 4 in 1 so ill only need 1, but its easier in the drawing to put 4.

This is what the dude at Jaycar suggested to me and what seems like the gayest idea ever:

However i fear hes right as the external speakers on UHFs are only 5w, so i dont think it would be able to power 4x40w speakers as i my car. Lotssssss more farting about as i cant fit an amp behind my dash like i could the rest of this wiring! I was thinking about just going to Cashies and getting a small, cheap amp and just running the UHF through it as the audio in my car is fine as is. Less wiring, less of lots of things really. And i could fit a small one under my seat.

Also, my research suggests that external speakers run at 8ohm as opposed to my car audio at 4ohm so i would need to drop that resistance somehow, yeah?

Food for thought.

Im thinking about just jigging up the original diagram and trying my luck as is.

Whoops, can someone please move this to the Tech section?

why does it have to be on a relay? Ive got mine setup(when i rarely use it) so the scanner just pugs into the AUX cable, which then runs through the HU, then amp, then car speakers.

I just manually switch it to what ever i want on. Wouldnt it be annoying if its constantly switching between sources randomly?

Well not if youre only using it every now and again. I just like to make things hard for myself haha.

What model radio do you have, does it not cause problems having an 8ohm output into a 4ohm speakers?
