3.5" dump pipe, twin 2.5" exhaust (Xforce pre-made systems are awesome for this), injectors, some form of cold air intake and a tune. Should see some very healthy gains.
If you want to move up in the world, valve springs are a must if you want to go for more revs. Is it auto? If so, gearbox should be alright with the mods as long as you don't constantly launch it.

Dump pipe is not nessesary. From the testing that I have seen if retaining std turbo and upping the boost mildy (ie tune) the gains from the $400+ aftermarket pipes are minimal, so not the best advice. BTW I wouldnt touch x-force headers/dump pipes/cats. The catback systems are good.

Im helping a mate with his BA xr6T atm and the list of mods we are looking at as below;
- Ballistic 100cpi Cat/3.5 Herrod Catback (installed)
- F6 Typhoon Airbox (installed)
- F6 cooler (cannot fit until tuned due to possible overboost on stock tune with hi-flow cats)
- Crow Valve springs (research says the Nizpro springs are prone to softening)
- 60lb Siemens Injectors (install with springs before tune)
- Fuel pump (Is a must before tune)
- Flashtuner (capa2 or X3 - correct me if I am wrong about the name)

At this point you will be looking close to 300rwkw with std internals and all being safe. If you have an A4 Id suggest getting it serviced and tricked up a bit. I have ordered a 2700 stall for my mates which will be installed and box strenghtened by SureShift Automatics (Virginia)

Another upgrade is to install the 4.10 diff gears out of a territory, this will help with acceleration in the auto as they are geared pretty tall. Manuals this will make 1st gear a bit short. If am M6 Id suggest upgrading the clutch too.

somewhere does a basic tune that gets you 300rwkw with just a front mount intercooler (although the stock one is pretty big), exhaust and tune (boost is controlled by the ecu so they bump it up)
for about $3000 you can have a pretty quick machine
if its auto tho look at upgrading the trans cooler too, just for reliability

If you're going to those levels of mods, then I would definitely recommend a new dump pipe. The stock one is fine if you're just retuning, but when you're pushing a lot more boost out it can start to become a restriction. Another reason I say to do it now is if it's done, it will NEVER become a restrictive point if you decide at a later date to do more upgrades plus it's easier to do it all in one go while the car is up on a hoist.
Personally, I would go with a twin 2.5" system over a single 3.5", more room to fit everything in and it will flow more.
We were one of the first workshops in the country to have a play with the XR6t's, and as such we still have jigs and the like made up for everything. We only just changed the rear muffler on a car we did two or three years ago the other day, is currently running a 10.4 on semi-slicks, exhaust wise it just has 3.5" dump pipe, 3.5" high flow cat and twin 2.5" system - nothing too fancy.
Fuel pump is something I forgot to add, definitely something that should be changed quick smart.

What workshop are you at?

I found the F6 behind the headlight intake and F6 front mount a huge improvement over stock. If you want to keep the stock intercooler piping the F6 intercooler is the best you're going to get for your money.

That, aswell as what the others said; exhaust, fuel pump, injectors and tune should get you a fair whack of power.

plain facts that on a Mainline (the truth in dynos) the difference from std dump to aftermarket was minimal..... in these days where $$$ vs HP mean more than wank factor the right advice is a nessesity.

No offence but you need more information about such a test for it to be much use. Power level and mod list of back to back tests really.

I deleted some junk in this thread. Keep the personal stuff out please. Offer advice and if you dont agree with someone else just say so, this isnt off topic.

A dump pipe change isnt just about the difference in peak power, its also about smoother flow allowing the turbo to come on boost easier etc.

I think that if OP isnt familiar enough with modifying a late model turbocharged vehicle, he should simply drive it into some where that offers kits, broken up into stages depending on what you want to spend, and pick one that suits his budget/power aim.

It'll take all the guess work out of it mate.

Unless the stock downpipe and everything forward of catback is 3.5 inches then there isnt a great deal of point getting 3.5 inch catback.
On a turbo car there is no scavenging so you are pretty much left with the most restrictive part of the exhaust being the bottleneck.
The minimum exhaust backpressure possible is the best thing for any turbo car, the less you have the more power you will make and turbo will spool earlier. It is a diminishing returns thing though so you have to balance if it is worth it for your power level/budget.
