Hey guys,

Been offered a bov for rather cheap, so was just wondering if anyone actually knew the weather or not u could put a bov on a vl turbo without changing the computer. Im a mechanic myself, but no other mechanic will give me a straight up answer and ive never played with turbo's before. If anyone has done, or seen this done before let us know.

Cheers heaps thumbsup.gif

Needs to be a plumb back type BOV. Otherwise it ll stuff which the air flow meter readings.

Bov venting to the atmosphere are really only suitable to MAP sensor equiped cars not AFM ecu's.

From what I know, you can as long as it's a plumback setup, at work a 300zx was running like a pig, and it turned out that an open air BOV was the cause. Something to do with when they backed off the air wasn't flowed back through to keep the turbine spinning, something like that. But I didn't actually solve this issue, the boss did, I just remeber talking about it.

Your on the Coast yeah, ring Matt Aspry at PITS, Performance Injection Tuning Services, He'll give you a straight answer, the lads a wizz with Nissan motors.

the reason the open air BOV would cause the car to run rich is because it stuffs up the reading from AFM.... the air comes in going past the AFM, but then gets vented out, hence more fuel has been given according to the AFM reading....then rich, there u go....

apart from that, i can not really see anything really big...

Just run NO BOV.
It's ok to do so - won't kill your turbo.
I've been running no BOV on 10psi for 3 months now.. I took the intake off to see if theres any shaft play.
From the beginning of my conversion, there was no shaft play at all... now there still isnt smile.gif

It wont kill the turbo in the sort term Nvious, but long term will cause play alot sooner.

The reason why you dont know what box the RB30 has is cause there isnt one.

I fail to see why you would need an atmo bov anyway, if you want wank wank sound, then fit a pod, and have it returning to the inlet just after the afm. you will hear it and wont get 8 inchs of qld police finest up your cake hole.

It's only a T25G Twincam16...........

as already stated, the air releasing out the atmo bov has already passed your afm (air flow meter) as you ecu thinks there is more air, it adjusts the fuel accordingly, causeing you to run rich at times, some cars tend to splutter and fart a little, mine backfires or blows a flame. no biggie.

lol specially RBs...i dont know any RBs which dont backfire..

but yeah, it is not a big deal, and once the car is tuned, it should not cause any problem...

the atmo bov i'm using causes my car to backfire/pop flame sometimes. seems to be when i feed it a few psi at low rpm.

Psst VL turbo's never had a Blow-Off /Bypass Valve from the factory. They're not needed and are really only used as an emissions control device or to make the turbo STFU and not make turkey noises on decel.

Oh dear, waffle waffle.

From owning about 10 vl turbos, yes you can fit one but it has to be a non, plumb back like a HKS Super seqential and the like.

If you are using a cheapo, i.e bosch valve or any other plumb back, well, you have to plumb it back!. (Hence no Pchew sound)

To save any more umming and aahing and computer this and that if you go and buy a Blitz of HKS blow off valve you just have to find a spot for it in the piping (yes narky people and hook up the vacuum line) and you can vent to atmosphere till your heart's content and protect your turbo from and percieved threat of failure due to not having a BOV fitted (load of crap unless you are running 40psi ish anyway)

Only reason I put a BOV on my VL TURBO was because it has a cooler( not factory) and it kept blowing out AFMs
